    What's in a name?

I was driving to work this morning and thought about something I wanted to ask you guys about. "Scrappers" are sometimes seen by other people in a negative way as i understand it from some of the threads here. Is "Scrapper" the official title/name of industry? Is there a possibility of altering that to something without a predetermined negative feeling behind it?
For a bad example: people that work during the graveyard shift at a store putting out the inventory that arrived to the store are called "Night Stockers" that sounds the same as "Night Stalker" which has a negative feeling that goes with it. I have heard the same position be called "Night Replenisher" which removes the negative and recieves a different reaction.
Not sure if i posted in the correct place but would like to hear everyone's thoughts if they have the time.

That's exactly why the name of my business is "Mick's Metal and Battery Recycling".
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I guess "Full of scrap" isn't a good idea then?

I agree the term "scrapper" has a negative image to some. This is my name and so far so good it seems.

Have pondered a name change though. Not sure what I would go with.

I use the term Metal Recycling in my ads and I refer to it as waste metal instead of scrap. Try as you might though some people still refer to us as scrappers simply because we buy or pick up metal.

Case in point: I have a car lot that I pick up from regularly and everytime I stop there one guy always says "Hey, Scrap Junky's here!" Oh well, makes for a good user name!

When I first started at the wrecking yard many moons ago, I wasn't a "yard monkey/ape", I was an "Automotive Dismantling Technician".

I call it 'Ferrous metal', not 'steel'.
For the same reason that 'steel' sounds too much like 'steal'...

I think that's clever. Let us know what peoples reactions are to the name. Maybe you can use "scrapper" as long as is funny/clever...
