Unhappy Who else gets flagged and removed on Craigslist?

No matter what I do, I always seem to get my ads taken down in pretty short order. I am sure it is my competition doing this. I won't play that game and flag anybody elses' ad, but has anyone found a solution for this problem? Or am I the only one?

i've found time of day you start the ad makes a difference too. Later at night i guess more people are drunk or something, but early morning and daytime they're more layed back, and less likely to flag

I dont mind when people flag my posts....I just re post it and its back on top right where I want it.....I get upset when people are not flagging it and it ends up on the bottom of the page or worse...on the 2ed page.

Why is it a pit fall? they flag yours...you post on top of there's.....people call you first and call him last...that sounds like a great thing.

Burly, I can tell you that ads from businesses do not last long on Craigslist. Some people do not like the idea of Craigslist becoming too "commercial" and they will flag the post. Posting in more than a few sections will also get them flagged really fast.

I would not automatically suspect your competition. It is pretty hard for one person to get an ad flagged that fast.

I would recommend leaving your company name out of the title of your ad, that will get you flagged right away.

With windows its not so hard....now I use Ubuntu 98% of the time..but its something like this

    in cmd

    ipconfig /all
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /all

Now...I would not say you should go and mess with people as that's just wrong...but at the same time its best to change your IP address every now and then.

All the time if I put it in items wanted or anywhere but services or small biz ads. In the wanted section sometimes I get hits before it is flagged.I have yet to get any calls advertising in devices or biz ads. There rules say soothing about buying thru items wanted.I will never know who or were the flags come from.

Flagging takes into account your WAN ip not your desktop IP.

Your WAN ip rarely if ever changes. It is assigned by DHCP but it is not uncommon for you to have the same IP for several months.

You can not flag a single add more than once from a single IP.

if you want to know what your WAN ip is go to www.whatsmyip.org that will show you your internet facing IP address.

I love it when people complain about their ad's getting flagged. 1, it's a good thing as posted above. And 2, if it pissed you off THAT much, maybe its a sign that you should start advertising elsewhere, instead of taking the easy way out.

Trust me, theirs ALOT more to this industry than just craigslist. Once people realize this, people will make more money.

Or you can just take the easy route and let the REAL scrappers make money. That's good too.

Actually, as it happens, I know who is doing it. He happens to be enough of a computer genius to be able to flag from multiple ISP's so it looks like multiple people are flagging me. He does it to all of the other competition too. He carries his laptop in his truck with him and flags other ads within minutes.

You would think someone with his abiliities would find another way to make money.

"Sigh." If only he used his powers for good instead of evil...

I am hardly someone who advertises only on CL. Just thought I'd get some input on a problem I've been having. That Is what this forum is for, isn't it? :-)

if you want to know what your WAN ip is go to www.whatsmyip.org that will show you your internet facing IP address.
Do the steps I showed then look at the website and you will see that the IP has changed unless you are on a static there is another step you have to follow to make the ip address you have time out and renew.

What you are doing on a command line is telling your computer and cable modem to release said IP from the DHCP server if you renew it right after and do not give it some time for it to fully time out it may not change. The ipconfig /all command before and after will show you that your ip has changed. One thing to look into for sure is if you are on dynamic or static....I would never want static your always best using dynamic and if you need a static for a website or something else you can use a 3ed part DHCP system you give you a static on your dynamic with a simple setup (your computer will talk with said DHCP server and relay the new ip address when ever it changes updating the system but you get to keep the same ip on the DHCP side......kinda like a website name and its ip address....all websites have there own ip address...this address in some cases is NOT the same as the server ip address but works fine as they stay updated in DHCP.)

Now...it comes to computers I know a thing or two =) But I will stop explaining it as this is a scrap forum not a computer nerd forum...its just best to do that from time to time to chnage your ip.

for those on static...do the ipconfig /release and right after unplug your modem for 4 or so hours (over night is best) plug it back in and you should have a brand new ip address from the DHCP server as the ip address you had timed out and you where giving a new one.

You condescending types want to explain further your thoughts on better places to advertise?

Or just shrug off those who use CL?

I've learned quite a bit from this site but, the nose in the air, know-it-allness really bothers me.

Say something useful or keep your smug statements to yourselves.

    Jeesh.

Not speaking to anyone in particular BTW.

I post in Services and haven't been flagged. When I post elsewhere I get flagged. Hard to say if I am getting calls from Services, or if many are looking at it. Maybe I should put a hit counter in there.

I post in wanted as often as I can refresh. I have been removed twice in a couple months, so not too bad. I might need to hit the services section in addition. Thanks for the info.
