Wow nice. The prices I'm getting aren't through the roof though. Closer to the basement really.

I've learned there is no "forever" in regards to scrap prices.

I was surprised at the prices at my yard today, way up over what they usually are. Might be because a new yard just opened up across town too.

Might have something to do with the auto manufactures adding a 3rd shift, Dunno but the precious metals market is on the rise also.

O.k. guys n gals here is something I find interesting. I always pay attention to when our members post prices at their local yards and I've noticed a strange trend in pricing. Now, it doesn't matter if those prices are up or down. Either way. When the prices go up in the north ours in the deep south tend to stay down for 2 to 3 weeks then go up. When those northern prices go down ours tend to stay up 2 to 3 weeks then go down.

I have no idea why and it makes absolutely no sense, but there it is. Now yall tell me. What gives?

Skyline, I think its a complete coincidence. My hard has just raised the prices of just about everything because it is cold and not many people are interested in breaking down cars or digging scrap out in this weather. To be honest my yard is pretty devoid right now.

I can see why there may be a trend but I don't really understand it making sense. Scrap yards all sell to the same place. The prices they sell for usually don't change much. The prices they
pay you are typically based on how much "inventory" they have in stock. Although there are certainly yards that are an exception to this ideology I'd suppose.

Scrap yards do not sell to the same place. Prices are based on exchange rate(futures). X rate is dictated by supply and demand which is a speculation for 3 months from now. Also the value of the dollar, when dollars up prices are down, dollar is down prices are up. Alot more variables added to that. U.S. buyers, and foreign buyers. Distance from enduser could drive price down.
