    Plastic Scrap

Hey guys, At work we generate a lot of plastic scrap, and recentlly our scrap guy hasn't been paying us anything for our scrap. We mainly have acrylic, PETG, and Polycarbonate. Boss man says I can have it, if I want it.

So basically I am trying to find a place around the Chicago suburbs that would buy plastic scrap. I can only move around 5 to 6k pounds at a time to due the size of my trailer, but I would assume this would be enough volume for recycler to look at.

Anyone have any help on this?

Not that it matters, But this is clean sheet stock plastic. We are a plastic fabrication business. But I think I'm getting the hint.

just hard to find a market/buyer for plastics........From what I understand the market is way down or there is no market at all.........Places are dumping/burying plastic anywhere they can get rid of it.........Don't take what we say as gospel..........Do your research and let us know what you come up with

Might be a stupid question, but have you tried Craigslist or Kijiji? We have a couple of local hippies that recycle and make furniture out of plastic - they've been snapping up plastics of all sorts.

It's probably a long shot but you could try reaching out to composite decking manufacturers to see what kind of plastics they are using. A lot of plumbing is done with plastics these days as well. Rope is made of plastic as well.

You might check your suppliers as too. You know they use polycarbonate, acrylic and so on for their manufacturing process.

The basic idea would be to locate someone that uses your kind of plastic as feed stock for their manufacturing process. Maybe try to work a deal where it goes directly from your company to theirs. You don't have to handle it ... just get a one or two percent cut on the deal as a facilitator's commission.

I have a feeling that some of the plastic sheeting inside the LCD screens can be sold for craft work.

A guy i know wanted me to put aside the flatsreens longer thinner outer edge strips because he could use them with his plastic welding rather than buy it wholesale.

This plastic nonrecycleings been getting to me lately, it's just solid fuel & carbon dust. Pyrolise it & it turns into liquid like petrol ( or Diesel depending on the plastic )
Carbon dust can be put into road surface or possibly car tyres.
