Scrap Car Lead Business / Auto Recycling

I have a questions for anyone that recycles cars or has a salvage busienss. I have been generating junk car leads for my families yard for about 10 years. I decided to start a business generating leads for all yards across the country.

When calling I have found the following.

    1. There are some large yards that only buy from the auction which I understand.
    2. Some yards won't talk to you at all.
    3. Others would prefer that you charge them 5x more for a guaranteed car, they don't want leads even though it ends up being cheaper.
    4. I am only able to sign up small guys with no yards that buy cars for scrap only.

#3 is causing #4, I don't understand why large yards don't want leads.

The small guys eat them up, but they are not very consistent when purchasing leads. Therefore it is very hard to consistently generate revenue from them. 1 week they spend $500, 3 weeks later they spend $50, 2 weeks after they spend $300.

    Any thoughts?

Big yards (most) don’t have desire or time to cold call leads. The big yards got big without you and they will continue to be big because of proven long term success.

Small guys don’t have the marketing presence or brand or large capital to ever be big so they may take chances or try something a little different to try to compete with “the big dogs”.

    Question

Leads as in the metal out of the batteries
    or
    Leads as in business contacts

    ???

( on a side note: I wouldn't mind having a few gallons of cheap concentrated sulphuric acid for processing )
