China shuts out US for 30 days

China freezes out US scrap shipments for 30 days - Recycling Today

Let's see how this effects prices.

US Scrap industry needs to adjust and start processing all of our own material. Keep the jobs here.

I wonder if this is a reason for aluminum scrap prices to remain flat even though the spot price of aluminum has been going up.
    Better than the dump!

In NZ we reopened a plotline at the Aluminium smelter, that's about 50+ tons a day & some well paying jobs.
They have shut down several plotlines over the last 15 years & to reopen one is welcome and unusual.
Its extra high grade Aluminium used in Capacitors & 100% hydro power electricity.

What is interesting is China hasn't bought signifcant Aluminum since October, down more than 30% according to charts. Japan is buying and so is Europe (quite alot). China can sit it out indefinitely and suffer the consequences. They are trying market manipulation tactics to get around tariffs without understanding the market is supported globally. They have tried pump and dumps on Copper recently too without really affecting price more than a penny or two. I leave my market watch screen up all day, every day watching it when I am at the shop, kind of funny to see China squirm like this, after doing it for us for thirty years.
WI ITAD LLC, IT Liquidation Services, we remarket, buy and sell scrap electronics No customer too large or small!

What live charts/sites are you using? I check kitco base metals daily. Alum spot is over $1.05/lb. Still only getting about 55c/lb here for 6061/6063 mix clean solids. Copper has kinda flat-lined a little around $3.09ish

Thanks to Freon Joe for his advice I'm now doing Sealed Units here. We were putting them In shipping containers and sending them to somewhere in Asia. But now that I got experience and the set up to run them I've been able to keep up with them so far. The steel gets shredded and cast Into sewer pipe here in Jersey. Not sure where the copper ends up, but at least the majority of the steel from em is staying out of China.
