~10,000ft of Pole Fence, Potential Whale

Howdy y'all, I am in need of some advice. Last night I got an email from my Craigslist ad asking if I would be interested in removing 10,000 feet of "Pole fence" and the sheet metal from a barn and a shed or something. I have never been offered a scrap opportunity like this and it sounds like a super simple job, just a lot of material to deal with which will ultimately be my bottle neck. He says that it will be "cut and laid down" which could mean really anything. I haven't gotten to talk to him yet but I will be speaking with him this morning hopefully. My plan was to negotiate a higher price for Unprepared HMS at one of the scrap yards near me, rent a uhaul trailer, and (if cut into sections I'm thinking its cut into) just stack them on the trailer until the job is done. There are a lot of unknowns with it and I'll update tomorrow but what do yall think about this plan? I was doing some quick math and I assumed the fence is cut into 10' sections, and assumed they would weigh 100lbs a piece so, if my thinking is correct, I should be bringing in a minimum of 100,000 lbs or around $6500 (thats using my current price for shred steel so it could be higher) before expenses. Any insight or advice would be awesome! Thanks yall

    Lightbulb

If the fence is in good condition, it could be resold.[*]
Do you have a truck that can go off road ? ( or 4 wheeler + trailer )
2 miles of fencing is a lot of posts to uproot !

[*] I personally would love to have some cheap galvanized 'round stock' to build a couple racks out of

A pole fence is a general term which could be metal or wooden posts with wood, metal, mesh, metal rod, or cable for the cross members. Until you look at it, you have no idea of what you have. If it is all metal or wooden and not rotten, the resale value would be better than scrap. The barn on the other hand could have even more value. Old joists, rafters, and beams bring big money in the cities. If it has old barn wood under the metal sheeting, that is a big money maker. Good luck and keep us updated.

Just a note: old 'antique' lumber can be worth a LOT of money. If you can, try to identify the wood ( if that is what you are dealing with ).
Some of the more valuable woods I have ran across over the years:
    Red Oak
    White Oak
    Birch
    Long Grain Pine
    Walnut
    Maple
for some reason blue stained pine is also kind of valuable

Prices can very a lot depending on species, size, and condition.

Sorry to bring bad news guys but I turned down the job. I was just thinking about how much of a logistical nightmare this would be. I don't have a very large trailer and even if I rented one, I would be taking so many trips over so many days I don't think it would be worth it. I just don't have the resources right now to do the job properly. Ideally I would love to have a large flatbed gooseneck trailer to haul it on but my truck couldn't pull it. Oh well, I figure that its better to play it safe than to get in over my head, especially since my college starts back up in a week and I wouldn't have the time to do it anyway. Sorry guys
