Crumb Rubber - Is it worth a look?

Hi Everyone, just quick question...... wondered if any scrap owners have successfully supplemented their revenue by recycling tires?
I admittedly haven't done much research but know the only facility is 500 miles away, and as such (and by law) all the tires are hauled to that facility. Govt funded program so my quick assumption is even a basic machine could be worth some consistent revenue as there isn't any competition and hauling tires is xyz% air, so not really the most efficient way from what I can see.

Should I look into it further or just move on?

Government funded means that there is no profit. And, likely the only way it works is if it is government mandated and government funded. If this is accurate then you will need to become an expert at government programs and influencing politicians. Mike

Disagree. It may require the funded party to be a not for profit organization. Doesn't mean there isn't money to be made.

In the non for profit organizations one group always makes money, the employees. As far a the "funded" party that's means taxpayers are on the hook for it.

Getting rid of old tires has always been a real problem and no really good idea has showed up By good I mean there is a profit, tax payers are not on the hook for it and its environmental acceptable.

Now this doesn't change what was at the beginning of this thread. It was a process that was government supported and I feel comfortable that it is also government mandated. And since there has been no really great process unleashed government mandated disposal is probably the best we can do at this time. None of this changes my advise, learn the requirements and learn how to curry the favor of politicians.

As a aside I have watches videos of Chinese set ups that heat the old tires in a vacuum chamber resulting in scrap steel and carbon black. Not enough information to determine if the cost of running the machine is more than the value of the steel and carbon black.

When analyzing things like what this thread is based on, be at least a little cynical and follow the money. This is why I pointed out that in the not for profit organizations the employees make money(there are rare exceptions to this).

Hi all,

new to this forum. As far as tire recycling. Have been business 15 yrs.long and short. Tires can be very a very good source of income but... The main goal of tire recycling is culling or collecting and selling the re use tires. That how most of your income is generated. Then creating a product you can sell from the by product Is secondary. I'm always in the market for used/ scrap tires. I make a variety of products with them. You just need to see beyond what's right in front of you and see what could be. Happy scrap hunting!
