95% percent of buyers I have dealt with in this forum have been reputable and awesome people.

Typically there are two reasons you will have a bad buyer.

    1. Buyer is new and inexperienced. Doesn't have the resources or time to dedicate to your shipment.

    2. Is trying to buy your stuff to flip it without having the cash on hand to pay you until he sells it. This is the one you should be scared of

Overall, SMF was and has been great for me, and opened up a lot of different outlets for items I didn't have a buyer for locally.

Unfortunately, stretching out payment to a supplier is a common business practice. I'm no lawyer but, in my opinion, once people start lying about the check being lost, etc. they are committing fraud. Proving it is often the hard part and the unscrupulous operators rely on this. As has been mentioned before, reviews are an excellent way to establish patterns of behavior and serve to protect the wider scrapper community.

Couldn't have said it any better. The problem with the second grouping is that no matter what you do, they cannot pay. You won't get money, because they simply don't have it. The first group is at least better. When I started buying, I know that I wasn't as efficient as I am now. It took me a little longer to process, because I hadn't figured out the most efficient methods of testing. As I did, processing times improved. But, there, at least you have a buyer that isn't trying to avoid paying. They'll still process it, and will pay out. I'd rather wait a day or two as a seller than I would deal with a company that physically had no means to pay me.

As the only scrap buyer of carbide on the forum I don't get much action around here so my thread is always questions of "is this guy still in business". We get tons and tons of business when lurkers or google searchers find our threads on here. I'm on the forum everyday in case their might be someone with a question about carbide or maybe I might learn something new but I would love a big ol flag stating im still in business.

DAVECCT - I suggest just having a note in your ad, just small small blurb with the date of the post. This will show people that read it that you are definitely active.

I don't know what to put in it, just whatever you want pertaining to your business.

As a small biz owner I know I do alot of biz on the net......I'm sure large biz owners are also on the net frequently.....It took me less than two minutes to log in and post this..........If two minutes is not worth the buyers time I doubt they need to be here (NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE JUST A SUGGESTION) TAKE TWO MINUTES AND CHECK IN AND GIVE THANKS TO ALL CUSTOMERS OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES

Agreed- you don't even have to post, but when you get home in the evening, you should check to see if there is anything on your thread...

    Makes sense to me!

ryanw......I have a ton of info on my page, answer questions within an hour, have tons of notes on my thread . I would still love a big glowing radioactive type of symbol stating that we're members of the bbb and iso9001 certified and that we have been in business for 20+ years. This is all on my page already plus we should have an auto message sent to buyers once a month with a dumb question and if they dont respond you get your banner taken down.

I'd have to agree but what if their prices are the same as they were at the last updated?

They should let us know, then. Just change it to say "Prices Current as of xx/xx/xxxx"

    No idea.

I saw a buyer post last week to say they were still accepting shipments. I didn't remember this buyers name so I checked out his profile and saw he hadn't posted anything in almost a year. He must have been getting enough scrap from other sources and didn't need to keep his SMF thread updated.

You could always open a support ticket and see if you get any answers.
