My advertising idea: Professional craigslist ads...what do you think?

    Hello,

I want to first get your opinion on my craigslist advertising idea before I get start with it. I want to know your thoughts, suggestions, and also if you would be interested in this service. Once I get your feedback I will post a thread in the sellers section.

Basically what it is, is a professionally looking Craiglist Ad that has colors, fonts, pictures ect. of the service you provide in your area. The way it works is first, you give me a description of the services you provide, pictures, logos, and any other detail you want included in your ad. Next, I design a professional looking ad on Craigslist and then you start getting calls to pick stuff up. I use these ads and they work great, I get calls everyday from them. I feel they set me apart from the other scrappers out there. I will charge a flat rate to design the page and then small monthly service charge to keep it active and for maintenance. The number has been deleted in this picture but, in the normal ads the phone number appears in large numbers on the top and bottom of the page.

I attached a sample of an ad that I made.

Let me know what you think and if you would be interested.

    thanks!

Great idea but around here it would just get flagged. I've even had them flagged in the service section in less than an hour.

So, the idea is to use the advertising on the forum not from outside sources? Thanks for letting me know and being honest.

That will get flagged on craigslist in less than 5min, i dont know why people dont like other people that are just trying to make a buck. But its the way craigslist and its users work. I would print fliers and put them up through the city and at the local colleges. You could also put up a classified ad in the local newspaper with a link to a website you make that has all the info on it. I spent about 10 years working at local newspapers, alot of small newspapers like colleges/schools and local papers will run classified ads for free, or at a reduced rate if they run it as filler. I was in charge of all advertising in the newspapers and was responsible for a 2 page classified ad section. Newspapers are always looking for filler advertisements and text.

Its nothing too fancy or anything, all I did was read the flagging section on the terms of use on CL and follow it and I now I dont get flagged. I guess I can share a little bit because everyone has shared so much on this site with everyone.

Maybe you already follow these steps and still get flagged. If that is the case then Im sorry to hear about your bad luck and that your competition would do that to you. Well here they are:

    1. Always post in the proper section, for us it is the service section under labor/moving or wanted. If you post in the Free section you will get flagged right away.
    2. Only post one of the same ad, never have two of the same type of ad posted at the same time, that is a sure way to get flagged. You might see lots of people that are posting lots of the same ad to stay on the top of the list but, they use several accounts and several phone numbers to do that. My approach has been to have the absolute best ad that set you apart from the rest so, I dont have to post it several times. I just renew every so often. People just call me instead because of the professionalism. My clients tell me that they choose me other the rest because of the ad. That is why I am offering this service to help out fellow scrapper and make a couple of bucks.

Seems I get flagged first thing in the morning before they have left the house, then the post sticks till lunch time. Post again after lunch, then I'm usually good cuz they are off to the yard then to the bar and don't care till morning rolls around.

I didn't mean around heare as in the forum, I meant on my area Craigslist (sorry for the confusion) I used to post a very professional looking ad with my business name in the services labor/moving section and it got flagged off several times a day. I followed all the CL guidelines for posting and it still got flagged. Finally just gave up on CL and went with business cards, flyers, newspaper ad and networking.

I do think it's a great idea though, if you can keep it from being flagged and you did a great job with it!

The type of add that I run would be different than most of you. I have posted in many different cities under computers. I have had very little problem with getting flagged, except in Oklahoma City some one there just dosent like me. But I try not to post in one city more than once within a 60 day time frame.

I think the idea is to be discreet and only have one ad posted for your business. If you have lots of posts for your business at the same time you will surely get flagged. Maybe my area is different but, if I only have one ad listed in the correct section, I dont have any problems.

Sorry to hear about you run in with the flaggers.
