I guess i am a "hoarder" as some people say. The way i see it, i see value that is more than scrap and choose to hold it because it doesn't cost me anything.
I do have 5 or so snowblowers, chainsaws and riding mowers. But will the potential to make money i hold them.
With copper and brass, i have always just waited for a substantial amount before i do anything with it. Same with wire i like to have 70+lbs before cashing it in.

Completely depends on the scrappers situation: ME <------ I work a full time job and don't need the money. Scrapping as a hobby, I Hoard everything, and sell steel only when I need room. (my steel pile needs to go, but I hate to get rid of it at these prices.) I use the spring and summertime to strip/breakdown and accumulate a large load and turn in all my good stuff once a year for a big check.
Garbage and Steel seem to be the only things that take up space. Everything else can be consolidated neatly with buckets and shelves.
