Scrap metal accounts

I've been part time scrapper forever. I'm looking to buy a roll off truck a few, dumpsters and go after accounts. my question is does anyone deduct a transportation cost right of the top, or is the money made just on profit per pound in metal.

In don't think you will get to many accounts charging them for your transportation costs just my.02

The yard I use does not charge for transportation. They drop it off, company fills it. They pick it up and pay them.

Your profit comes from the metal, like Johny said you won't get much business charging a transport fee.

I have around 25 accounts(part time scrapper) but I only use 55 gallon drums, gaylords, and in a few cases small plastic totes.

You'll find most of the shops/accounts that produce a quantity that would require a roll off deal directly with the yards. At least that's the case around here.

IIRC Yards that provide roll-offs pad their expenses into what they are going to pay out. ie...the payout would be less then if you were to drag the material down there yourself.

I have an account I'm working on that is a 3 yr. contract producing alot of metal, I just want to be 100% sure about my bid.

Is now the time to go after more industrial accounts with roll-offs ---maybe paying a little more per/ton with the prices being low???

Why not just build it into the picked up price of the container. That's how everyone does it. That is why if you call and say you have 20 tons of plate they always ask are you bringing it to me or are we picking it up? Good luck though.
