The cache of ceramics i have been hording over the past 6 months. For some reason i began collecting them instead of selling them. Maybe ill get rid of a few but i love the 486s and the Pros.
Anyone else hate selling off something they found in scrap? even if you know its worth something nice?

And yes, I can indeed relate to your feelings. There is definitely some interesting neurochemistry at work: emotions swirling around possession, a comfort derived from tangible things, and the historical record of a discovery. I'd love to better understand this sensation.
At some level, I think there's a connection to notions of life/death. The physical me, after all, is merely a transient intermediate in the nutrient cycles for carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous and sulfur. On planetary terms, I'm a flash in the pan before I return to my default state as carbon dioxide, nitrates, phosphates, and sulfates -- dust to dust. I know that, and yet I'm very connected to keeping the physical me around for as long as possible. Somehow, this overarching idea regarding self-preservation bleeds over into notions about my stuff. My stuff becomes an extension of me. It's not healthy, but it's there.
I love this interview with Jack Nicholson, which briefly touches on precisely this topic.

I think it's a cheap way to hoard gold. I think I'm going to continue hoarding them to pay off the rest of my home, etc. Does anyone have allocation funds for various metals?
Here's my breakdown:
#1, #2 Copper is my vacation fund
CPUs contribute to my retirement
Steel = Gas money
The rest pay bills

I do the same, I hoard my processors and some of the obvious pretty stuff. Can't say as there is a real plan in effect for it, except maybe doing some recovery myself in the future.

I wish i could count the number of them i sold on ebay 6 or 8 years ago. The things i didn't often sell were mostly memory (old EDO type) and add in cards (PCI and ISA, among others older, modems, video and sound cards, SCSI controllers, etc), for not only IBM compatible, but also Apple, Sun, SGI, etc., and many older hard drives, parts for both workstations and servers, of which i have uncounted boxes full of them. I'd never use as shipping boxes anything pertaining to tobacco or alcohol, but the half pint whiskey boxes do make excellent card storage containers, with their many compartments. Actually I'm hoping these will be valued at better than scrap as they become scarcer and harder to find, maybe listed on a website for those who choose to restore older computers. Or, i could sell them now for a thousand dollars or two, decisions! (closes the box, puts it back on the shelf)

Its hard to let go of these little gems!
I keep one piece of each type of ceramic cpu i get my hands on... I like it and i truely think the collector's value (for the whole collection) will skyrocket in 30-40 years.

Do not sell the penium pros;;;; If you do you will hate yourself for several years,,,, and you will not find any more of them ,,,,...I know I did it ....;; havent seen one since....
Yep, im holding on to mine. I really like the 4 pentium pro's that i have that are still new in factory sealed box's.
bought them when i was in high school off ebay. $14.99 for 5 free shipping. I ended up opening one.
