    Archiving System?

Hello all! Hope you all have been busy, busy, busy!

Was just wondering if any of you have ever seen something like this? By the labeling, it seems like it's some kind of archiving system but I don't know; I've never seen anything like it.

    Hopefully the pictures uploaded...

it's kinda hard to tell from those photos. does it have ram in it ? i'm kind of thinking a very old server type thing. What kind od hook-ups does it have on the back?

Yeah, sorry, they're cellphone pics. No ram, but it's got slots for something. The only reason I thought it was some kind of archiving system is because the label on the back of it says "Archive Corporation". The front says "Intellisys". I don't know anything about computers other than how to break them down, and thought maybe this was a server (since I've never seen a server before). I don't have any pics of the back of it and can't remember; it's in my shop, will have to look tomorrow. I've just never come across something like this before, and I got all excited when I saw the gold chips.

yeah, my guess is more a multi CPU server of some sort. 8 or 16 slots maybe ?

hek, i just got a look at the bottom picture, that didn't load earlier, i'm on a prehistoric connection here. It could be telecom, hek, i really don't know. I see those slots, looks like 4 old EDO type RAM slots

Any idea what it says on those chips? are they all identical?

I beleive it to be either the brains for a phone system, or a Voicemail server. Itellisys does phone systems!

So I looked on the back of it, and it has connections for a keyboard, mouse and printer, but also 2 gold-pinned connections labeled A and B, then these cable-like connectors labeled R, B & G, and a LAN connection. At the top it also has this big gold-pinned connection labeled "SCSI A". It also says "Data General" which is a company out of Westboro, MA that was popular during the 70s and 80s and went defunct in the 90s.
Upon more research, it appears to be a Data General AV 400 Series either power supply or microcomputer. Here is an identical picture I found on the net

It says Archive company on the inside of the disk drive or whatever it is (not sure, it so old, and has this little pulley for when you push the button to eject whatever it was that went in there).
Some of the gold chips appear to be motorolla, as they have the M emblem. I'm wondering if I should hang on to them.

cool! It could be best to hang on until you either get more of them, or your buyer puts them in a higher than average chips category, if they're well above average, and a buyer would even do that. The motherboard in it probly has some richer than average chips on it too. I doubt it'll ever be back in demand, even as a collectors item, unless the company who made it might have some interest in it for their "company museum" or something. I dismantled a bunch of "ancient" servers and assorted miscellaneious(dadgummit! i hate words i can't spell :P) computer equipment, back before you could find a buyer of less than a truckload, and some of them had gold chips all over the boards. I took a hammer and big chisel to cut as many of them off as i could, and added it to the lot of CPUs I posted on Ebay

Having lived in OKC for a spell I don't even have to look at your location to know where you are or have been.

"I'm wondering if I should hang on to them."

I would say yes for now untill you know everything about them. That way if someone wants to buy them as a collectable you will be certain of their value. Keep us up dated please, Mike.
