Well im sorry to inform that i had no idea what i was getting into or what i was doing. I ended up only taking 800 lbs of "stuff" There turned out to be only a few servers and mostly old medical scientific military looking stuff that i had no idea if i should buy or not. Major eyeopener to my inexperience. I will be posting some pics so you guys can let me know what this crap is worth.
Don't beat yourself up over it...in the end you will gain some experience and make a few bucks hopefully.
Lots of military stuff has gold plated contacts. I would take a representative sample of each type when you return. It will be well worth the education you will get. Mike.

ya miked almost everything had gold contacts of some sort but i didnt know if all gold boards are equal. Most of what i saw was very plane boards with very little "goin on" on them but had goldfingers. Most of these i left. Its not too late if a made a major mistake guys i can go back there in the morning since im off work. Please help point me in the right direction.
in that case grab the aluminum ones first, won't that alone insure you a return ? the government buys(or at least, they used to) the very best equipment our money can buy! And if it's alum case but still heavy, could be a sign lots of goodies inside. I'm just guessin from a distance, you gotta make the call up close ;)
I would say the switches will be alum cased... just my experience
YEah I think I would buy at least 1 of each type and tear it apart right away. It will be worth the education. At least then 3 months from now you wont be kicking yourself in the pants wondering what was inside those things. And once you do find out whats in them and you ever see them in the future again youll have a leg up on any compeition.
Id get my ass back down there with some of the stuff you broke down and get some more. Mor times then not im busting into that type of equipment and i am pleasntly surprise.
If you see stuff with any gold fingers and pins and not just brass fingers and pins, by all means grab them, they are at the very least mid-grade at .25 to .30. Or they might be graded higher into the 2.00-3.00 range. Like I said above, I don't see how you can lose on this. Might not get a gold mine but you'll get one heck of a lesson without major expense.
A little update guys. I went back to the scrap yard late this morning and sent Zack (escrap) a few pics of what i was dealing with. He gave me a great idea. He said that i should ask the owner if i could pull the boards off and give him 1.50/lb for them. That exactly what i did, well almost. I offered him .50/lb and he said no problem. Whoo hoo. Unfortunately i didnt have a lot of time because i had some pick-ups scheduled. I managed to get 21lbs of boards in a little over an hour. here is a pic of them. not a very good one however. Oh and the eprom in the bottom caught my eye. I thought it was a gold sticker covering a window but its a gold plate. Any seen these before?
