    Potential Whale!

I had a great meeting with a gentleman yesterday that owns a local thrift store. His business is listed on the local Solid Waste Authority as a recycling center, but he does not currently do E-Waste.

We had a great conversation, and the the way it ended was that he was going to fill a Gaylord for me and give me a call. He thinks that this summer he'll have a Gaylor a week for me to tear down! A Week!

Great Guy...good christian. Very excited about this partnership. And I had another repair company call me and we're going to team up. Slow week for pickups but good week for networking!

Hope it works out for you! Did you make first contact with the thrift store?

Great job. We just signed up our local Habitat for Humanity restore. Got the contract for ewaste as well as scrap metal, including copper. aluminum, and brass. Putting a computer recycling sign out by the road as well as writing up a small article in the local paper.

If done right these little stores can be quite profitable and they will presort all material o make it easier on you and more profitable for them

I actually just contacted 2 of the local Habitat for Humanity stores yesterday. Going to follow up with them again today. They get tons of stuff, and they need something to do with the stuff they have no uses for!

Just keep in mind George that Habitat for Humanity's goal is to raise money so if your not willing to pay for their scrap you probably won't get far. I may be wrong but I get the impression that directrecycle is going to pay them something.

Thanks! Yes, I looked at the Solid Waste District's Website and saw they DON'T take computer scrap. So I emailed him and told him that I felt we could work out a partnership. We met yesterday and worked out a deal that I think benefits us both.

He has a great location on one of the busiest State Routes in town. I'm going to have some banners printed and offer his one.

I think I'll stop by the Re-Store here. I know they are listed as an E-Waste drop off spot, so they probably have a Vendor...but..maybe not. We'll see!

Correct. However, their goal is to also accept any and all items that they feel will resale quickly. Some items do not sell for a multiple of reasons.

I will always still to my rule (for now anyways) of never paying for scrap metal (unless via an auction or if a really good deal comes along, and the client isnt hard headed). I know most people on here will be even for single ticket items, but I have never seen the value in doing that.

However, with that said, I am willing (but won't actively advertise it) to pay for electronic scrap, because I do see really good potential there, and I see the prices for escrap staying more current then it does for regular scrap metal.

Any businesses goal is to make money without spending a lot in return. Other wise, you do take away from profits.

My offer to them, was to take any scrap appliances and other metal that had no resale value or could not be fixed for one reason or the other.

I also offered to take all escrap prices, but did not offer anything as of yet.

Basically, my step here quickly is to find a ewaste buyer that I feel comfortable with and use their pricing list, to determine my own prices. Kind of like what parttimescrapper did when he first started out.

Also, one benefit that I have, is that there is an ewaste buyer very well known and local here to me. So I can also work out maybe some pricing with them as well.

However, they will only get the stuff, that other ewaste buyers don't buy. They literally take ANYTHING electronical.

we offer to pay for most of their material. The breakdown we offered and they accepted was as follows

    appliances/steel - 40 dollars per trailer load
    copper - 1.25 per pound
    brass .70 per pound
    aluminum - .25 per pound
    computers - 3.00 dollars ea
insulated wire - .35 per pound
free removal of crt's/ keyboards / mice/ printers and other lower grade items

they get free articles in the paper and will do a couple articles a year.

we do alot of computer resale (they do none) and have the stipulation that nobody gets to cherry pick any of the good stuff

I also explained to them that getting new customers in the door (even to drop off an older computer) brings awareness to their business as well
