New on board sort?

Any one else notice this recently all their boards now say (no batteries)



I mean really whats next. Will they want them pre crushed? How about we send them out for an assay first?

They are starting to get pretty ridiculous on their sorts. What can a small amount of motherboards with tiny batteries really do to their bottom line? I can see an 18 wheeler coming in and them making that justification but it seems ridiculous to push to us small timers.

Any one else feel like it keeps taking more and more to make a buck these days? Im just glad my e-buyer hasn't adopted these new sorting practices, ( yet at least )

The battery issue is one that is coming directly from the refiners these days. Batteries are dangerous and can cause a lot of problems. The sorting issue is sure to trickle down through the entire industry. Most buyers, like Board Sort, are operating on a small margin of profit and as such they have to have the new sorting procedures to continue to make money on the products that they purchase. I agree that it is not easy but this is just one of many changes that have happened in this industry over the past several years.

maximising profit is a natural progression of any business , even yours, lith batteries are a danger under certain cercomstances, it is more cost efective to have you remove them from 100 lbs of boards then it is for them to have to remove them from a truck load. my guess it is coming down from their processors.

ever think that is exactly how chris feels and why he made the change?

might as well get used to it. there are going to be a lot of changes over the next couple of years. some of the states are really getting tough on recycling. it will be nationwide before long.

that 15 day hold some of the city's are going to will really screw this up for the small seller.

About a week ago I dropped off a shipment at boardsort in person. Had hoped to use ewasted but they weren't open for delivery during my short window of opportunity, so went with boardsort.

I showed up with about 400 lbs of mixed boards. He pointed out that the motherboards still had batteries and I appologized, said I didn't know I had to take them out. Chris said not to worry this time. By the next morning the website was updated saying no more batteries, hehe.

Since I am new to e-scrapping, how do I know what is considered the battery?? Of course when it comes to the cell phones and stuff ya I know where the battery is, so what about the boards?? Can anyone post some pics

don't worry, iyg, you'll recognize them when you see them...most of them look like a shiny nickle...held in with a little clip...easy to remove.

Are they talking about the round, silver lithium batteries only or are there other kinds as well?

i accept 'dirty' boards and electronics from my corporate and govt accounts simply because i do not have to pay for them. i no longer accept boards that still have the heat sinks, batteries, retainers, mounting brackets, etc on them when i am paying for them. i have lost a few customers, but my profits are up. everyone has to do what is best for their business. if you are not making enough profit then you need to reassess your business model.

Sometimes, the batteries are still good and can be re-used. My used parts buyer has started taking them

I have yet to cash in any boards...i talked to a local company about their grading and pay policy, he told me they have high and low grade. I told him ive been pulling aly heatsinks, motors/transformers, and anything with copper on it...he told me i didn't have to, just pull the board and thats it. I know they obviously want to pay as little as possinle, but for motherboards what all needs to be on/removed? Do buyers care if copper is pulled off?

you can leave the batteries in with us as well. We all so don't care about the color boards...here is our take on them

They where there before....they are still there...so there is no change...now...if someone sent us a TON of "colored" boards them we may think on a price change but over all we (and still at this time) do not care about the red,blue and so on motherboards being in with the green boards.

GNR...I haven't done the board thing yet either but what I have learned here is if I can get more per pound for the material left on because it's tagging along with the mother board price, I'm going to leave it on.
