    good price for laptops?

Looks like there is a consensus that $3-5 is a good price range for buying desktop towers. What about laptops? Compared to a desktop, taking apart a laptop is a pain -- at least for me -- and there is less scrap in it by weight. So it looks like selling them whole might be better. So...

    1. Do you break them apart?
    2. How much would you pay for them?

    Thanks!

if they work or is an easy fix sell it whole, most computer repair places around me buy them, i had 2 with broken screens recently, sold one for $140, the other older one for $50, so Im assuming that I wouldve gotten MUCH less for scrap. when you come across them ask whats wrong with them, or try and turn them on yourself. Desktops are not worth trying to sell whole unless you come across pretty new ones, like less than a year old

Laptops are not the best, at least in my experience, when it comes to scrap. The boards are smaller and lighter which means less cash....There are some companies out there that buy them for refurb and will pay a decent price for them.

When buying laptops i go from $4-$30. I take apart the older ones(p1 and p2) that have no collector value. If they are collectable i ebay them for resell. There is a buyer on smf who pays $16+ for complete p4 as long as the screen isn't cracked(untested) the newer ones sell on ebay for good money. I at least try to double my investment and when it comes to laptops thats easy to do.

They are 99% worth more on ebay as a "parts" machine....especially if the screen works. Check there 1st by model numb to get an idea of value. I generally sell them whole on there as a parts machine and can get pretty decent money many times. If it wpnt charge, pull the battery pack and list that as not invluded because it wont charge. Sell as ni mh or li ion battery locally or recycle as it will save a TON of weight...especially on older ones.

Collectors want the older (Pre LION) batteries because they can be recored at home cheaply and safely so list the battery as optional. I see people collecting Pentium 1 laptops quite a bit, what is vintage and wanted changes by the year. Every city has a few laptop refurb guys, get to know them so you can sell newer items to them and grab stuff they don't want to mess with in return.
