    escrap questions

so i go to a guys house to pick up some computer towers i bought (i rebuild some from time to time to help w/ the bills) and we get to talking and he tells me he's got some boxes in the garage with some more stuff if i want it so i say sure why not

go out to the garage and theres about 20 old computer cases and boxes of old motherboards, ram, cpu's, expansion boards, PSU, and other misc. stuff

so long story short i have heard about escrap before but never really messed with it (i mostly handles cars and parts) so if anyone on here deals with this stuff what is this stuff worth i have about 100+/- cpu's (pentium 1,2,&3, also a few pentium pro and AMD stuff about the same amount or ram simm, sdram, and other misc. ram also lots of motherboards, expansion cards, ect.

i have already stripped all the towers and boxed most of the parts up just wanted to see if it was worth anything

i figured someone here would be interested that's why i put it up cause i am in central nc and to get decent prices on e-scrap i would have to put stuff on fleabay i knew i had read stuff here and there about e-scrap but no numbers to compare to know if the quantity of product i have would be worth anything i am still going through and sorting stuff into different boxes anyone interested please just pm me with some contact info and i will get you an exact list of what i have available.

That will be tough since you are only allowed 1 PM message at your level. Better offer another way for contact.

not to be a jerk but if i am registered on this forum like i am in many other forums across the web AND payed the $20 to be allowed in the scrap room forum i think its a little ridiculous to say that i can have only 1 PM kind of defeats the purpose of a pm system when you cannot use it

heh, you don't have to be a scrap room member to get more than 1 Personal Message, I believe once you get more than 10 posts your limit get's lifted.

Oh sorry there. Didn't see you were a scrap room member already. Just looked at your post count. You should definitely have plenty of room now.

Here is what we do with the computers/servers we get. We have a e-waste buyer that will buy parts whole

Scrap Cases. Pull out all wires - Scrap. PSU, Hard Drives, Components (CD / DVD), Ram, CPU, Motherboard, Daughter boards all sold by the lb.

The only thing we don't know what do with (or has yet to find a decent buyer for) are the plastic casing and fans.

The fans are worth around 25 to 30cents per pound but to get that price you need to have a TON of them.

The deal on the plastic is this. Its all ABS plastic (thats good news) but you have to bail it or chip it as hauling air down the road is not good. You need to GET weight into the trailer. If you can fill a 55 foot van I would not mind buying it from you. I have buyers that like to buy it...but only in bulk.

55' van.. is that like a semi trailer? That is a whole lot of fans..

I am not familiar with bailing/chipping, are we talking about compressing it and crushing it?

What about the wires and such?

    Thanks Easy

My bad, My post was not very clear. On the plastic if you can fill a 55 foot van (yes a 18wheeler) there are buyers who will pay the shipping an loading an pay you around 4 to 5 cents a pound.

ON the computer fans. As they are (with the small wire..if some dont have it..its fine just dont go pulling them all off.) I can pay you $0.15 per pound if you ship them to me. I am getting around 20 to 25 cents an that is because I am not sending a whole van load of them.

Is it really worth it to ship something that you're making $.15/lb off if it costs more than that to ship? I could see RAM and MBs being worth it at a few $/lb, but it seems like you'd be losing money on fans. No offense though, Easy.
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer

If you are shipping by small box yes. But you can ship a pallet for around 100 to 150 (based on where your at) so It would be one of those things where the motherboards would be in the bottom an fans on top if you cant fill a gaylord full of motherboards or anything else. Fans more or less are a filler =) Why ship a box half full when you can ship it full for the same price.
