I'm also picking the stuff for free where as many of the "big" business that do the same service charge an arm and a leg for so when I get into a business that was shopping around for an e-waste disposer, they know the value of my service to them. They are more than willing to clean up their space and continue to keep it clean and free of piles. I have heard quotes of upwards of 700 bucks to pickup from companies.

With that said, you tend to get a sizeable loads when you go for a pickup. If you start to learn what and which boards are what and separate them somewhat accordingly, you will see a higher return per load. Residential e-waste will never get you any where, unless you have a drop-off location where they can bring it to you. I run out to one of the buyers here that is just north of me and usually walk out with at least 300 monthly, sometimes more. Just bringing in 24 boards is by far not the best gage, but I would start with collecting a garbage can full of low grade boards first and you will see a difference.

Just doing business only has it draw-backs though, you need to find the right person to pull triggers and not dilly around with you.

Hopes this helps you a little better and doesn't push you away from the e-waste, it is a big learning experience that is always evolving. I have probably said to much.

    Good luck

I've also noticed all the big boys switching to a pay as you throw system. I'm still buying from businesses. I may have to adjust some of my prices for certain places that have mostly scrap value material.

I have read that also, especially on the east coast. I ran across one quote that one of my clients checked on was through a local trash company, that one was a 200 pickup fee also with 60 per computer charge, they had 31 computers that I picked up. Its companies like that, that keep me plugging away with the free pickup service and just a little charge for COD and wiping along with CRT fees.

Hi eggsalad! Only just now seeing this as have been too busy to be active in our lovely forum recently. Was in Florida when you stopped in if I recall correctly. I never saw the load you brought in on its own. I can tell you that we've recently raised our prices, in some cases dramatically. If you ever wanna meet up and go through what kind of returns you can expect for what kinds of materials hit me up and we'll make it happen. Maybe can avoid some disappointments or, better, help find some great opportunities.

There is no such thing as easy money. Well... It takes years of dedication, hard work, trial and error before you see anything that resembles what one would call "easy" money.
