Sounds like it might be the winter doldrums aka cabin fever. Feels like every day is the same as the last and it's an endless repetition of the same old /same old ?

Curb shopping is the thrill of the hunt ? Kinda breaks up the monotony ?

I just landed 60 desktops and 4 boxes of misc "stuff" today.
I broke down the "stuff" and did 2 towers.. I'm like "Ehh.. not feeling it."

So I get you! I really get you!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

Sounds like you have a good supply stream. Maybe time to re-evaluate what your time is worth. Try to identify your least valuable item per unit time and pass it on to someone else. Free up your space and time for the more profitable items. If after this reassessment, you still feel buried, identify another low profit/high work load item and again remove it from your work stream.

A successful system does not stagnate, it evolves to its next successful form. You know what makes you money, but where is the best money? You have incoming material, divert the “scraps” and devour the good stuff. Just because something seemed worthwhile before, doesn’t mean you have to burden yourself with it now. Use the knowledge you have earned to earn the income you deserve. Knowledge is power, busy work is time consuming.

I find the best time to start to scrap down escrap... Is when the kettle is heating up for my first coffee of the day.
It sets the day off right and the caffeine hit gets me going and provides a serotonin release of pleasure accompanying the steadily growing pile of valuable escrap and the suddenly smaller hord of feedstock. :-)

Cold and snow are definitely factors in the mix but it's possibly more about low light conditions. The short winter days and long nights wear you down. Some say there's survival value in it. Up until a couple of hundred years ago people lived by the seasons. People worked hard during the spring, summer, and fall to put up enough food and supplies to carry them through the upcoming winter. Wintertime was a time of scarcity with little or nothing coming in. If you ran out of food halfway through ... your family would die of starvation.

That's why our bodies are telling us to reduce activity and conserve calories when light conditions are low. We haven't evolved to live in this new modern world just yet.

Opposite that is the land of the midnight sun where people get so amped up on sunlight that it's harder to idle down and get some rest. That's the time of the year when the folks up North should be working extra hard to put up enough to carry them through their harsh winters.

    ===============

A number of years ago i installed fluorescent lighting in the shop that simulates daylight. After that, it wasn't a problem to go ten or twelve hours a day on e-waste as long as there was enough supply coming in to keep me busy. Last year, they switched over the lighting at work to high output led's. The crew is more productive this year & the general mood on the job is noticeably improved.

There might be something to the whole idea ?

I got tired and stopped picking up and pushed to get rid of my inventory and ship it to my buyer. This occurred May-June of last year. Fortunately I am retired and can live without the income.

Since that time when I stopped picking up I changed my mind on my one really good customers a computer repair shop and have picked up from them, twice. I still have lots of stuff on hand that needs to be tested, processed, sold and I continue to NOT to do much of it.

I have learned so much over the past 6 plus years most of it from other members of this forum. I think I don't have the burning need to learn more about ewaste. I'm tired of ewaste for now. 73, Mike

I'll swap you my printers/copiers for your computers/laptops. I'll even throw in a Coleman cooler and a pair of Mechanix gloves

Actually my goal for 2018 is to get a LTL pallet full so I can finally send this (3 year in the making) load off! Seems too expensive any other way.

I think that is the thrill to me..........When I get a call I usually rush out to get item as I'm interested to see what it is........I still pay for some stuff (Very little) but most I take for free anymore.....I have probably 20x40 space filled top to bottom with junk electronics.....Towers/printers/Crt/Odd ball items....ETC........I work thru these items daily always on the hunt for Ebay stuff but in the end most of it is scrap......We shall call this "Job Security".........I'm sure other bigger people have much more than I do but those who know me here understand I'm basically a one man operation with a little help from family

When I was sending via fed-ex payouts kept getting smaller and the shipping bill kept getting larger........Had no other option than going pallet route or else was going to have to find different line of work........Pallets are the only way to go in this game

I'd say Montana is not exactly a "HOTBED" for electronics.........Here in urban area of Knoxville with Large universities and companies around plus the amount of population makes for pretty easy pickings

Not that I'm happy you're feeling "blah" about the hoard, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one feeling..um..well BLAH! I was starting to think there was something wrong with me. You know..more than usual.
