Advise on what to do with our scrap electronics

I run an IT company and we also buy/sell used IT equipment, mainly servers and switches. We've been stockpiling a bunch of used servers and other equipment and need to come up with a solution to scrap/sell all our overstock. Would it make the most sense to hire someone to go through everything and separate out, scrap it all as is, or sell it to a scrapper? We're in Columbus OH area and there are a few recycling shops but last time we dropped a pickup load we barely got anything for it.

My zero experience opinion would be to sell it to a scrapper for a fair scrap price. You'll just be done with it all at once and he'll be stoked to get some gold recovery fodder. Or depending on volume, maybe you should head to the Buyer/Seller section and work out a deal with a well known buyer.

Put it on a pallets and call me. I will buy it by the pound and even arrange a truck to come pick it up. If you buy and sell IT equipment you know what is worth money and what is scrap. Not sure why you would need to hire someone to sort threw it. Let me know if you would like to sell it all in one shot.

Every couple months we get about 8-10 pallets of equipment. We then keep about 20% of the stuff to sell and the rest is basically scrap. We mainly do servers and switches but get all kinds of stuff with them. I'm not sure if we should hire someone to go through it and separate out the parts or just find someone to take it all and split the money. Because most of the stuff is high end enterprise equipment i'm assuming its high in precious metals compared to desktops and other equipment.

One of the biggest buyers on here is located in Ohio. Drive it there and sell it, or learn from him how he wants it sorted and make even more...

Read through the buyers threads. They are listed by state. Most have emails and/or business websites. Price lists and reviews are all there. Do your homework. Good luck.

You already have a buyer who has posted twice and appears very interested. Have you contacted him?

Not yet. I just sent him a PM also.

On a side note. If your looking for more then scrap value on some of the switches. i also offer that service as well. I can sort threw it and see if there is anything thats worth more then scrap and pay a better price for those units.
