Newbie E-waste scrapper getting first shipment from Egypt

    Hello everyone!
I have a company in Egypt that have 900lbs of mixed, non-sorted processors and rams for $2300 including shipping to Chicago. is that a good deal? They give no guarantee of the contents or the models. I am guessing Egypt's e-waste would quite a bit of the 486 and older pc parts which would justify the prices. I think the uncertainty is high there but what do you think?

Caution on this deal. You don't know what it is until you get it. What recourse do you have if its just trash? Something to consider.

Yes, I would have to agree with Miked on being cautious about the shipment. Also, that would be great pictures to look at. We all can gloat on large loads but sorry to say, no pictures, it didn't happen. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the load and also hearing about the outcome.

Let us know how that works out for you. Personally, I would run away as fast as I could from it.

Was just doing some numbers on this. At worst case scenario, you are able to make 1.70 per pound minimum if you honestly get what is said about a mix of procs and ram. and that is only if you send them to a buyer on this forum. if a gold processor is buying them all, then you might do better. If your looking for a buyer here, to go in on it with you, best of luck. We all love pictures, can't wait to see them.

See I was figuring at the price you say, that comes out to you paying about 2.55 dollars per pound. Now not knowing what is in there, work from the lowest prices of what is said, pinless with heatsink, 4.25 per pound, and I really don't think anyone can do better. and that's only if it is not a scam.

Miked: Thank you for your reply and input. I do live in the states and I have a friend who is going to buy these scrap loads and I will request he send me pictures once we started. The scrap is available at small quantities with scattered little shops. The pictures sent will give me guidance as we purchase more. I will be happy to share them here once I started. Its not easy to get huge quantities without going around and spending transportation and man hours to get the valuables. I guess in Egypt time is cheap as well as transportation. so the overhead wouldn't be much. Or at least I hope!

tski72: Thank you for your feedback too. Yes, this is definitely not a single transaction, we will be going buying small quantities within a certain pricing which we calculated to be $2.5-$3.8 per pound. So any supplier outside this range will be skipped!

jimicrk: Thank you for reply. you guys are great community and I appreciate your positive and critical thinking. will definitely keep you posted.

mikeinreco: No spam here. I am an engineer who is tired of regular employment and I love scrap, will see where this will take me

What and Missouri: Once I start, I will share pictures here and get your inputs. Our time line for collection is 1week to a month. Thank you for the humor

I noticed that under your username your location is "Egypt" If this is a B.S. set-up and you are here to see if people will take the bait- I can assure you the waters are COLD here for you to go fishing. If you are REALLY trying to make this deal I have advice for you either way:

I'm going to admit this publicly to hopefully assist others.
I nearly fell for this with a firm out of Canada about 2+ years ago.

I got all "gold feverish" and sent the guy $800 as a down payment for my load, I secured a dock to have it arrive. He sent pictures- turns out with a little hunting on Google Images- they were just recycled images with a few fake overlay of chips "photoshopped" in.
    I called him on it.
I got with Paypal when I knew the jig was up. They worked with me and I got all my $ back- I felt lucky and blessed!

With my payment secured back to me I asked him "So what was I going to get? A ton of Phone Books or a Ton of Bricks?"
This scammer held it right to the end. Says "If you ordered a ton of bricks.. you would have gotten a ton of bricks.. if you ordered a ton of phone books.. you would have gotten a ton of phone books, if you ordered a ton of ceramic CPU's you would have gotten a ton of CPU's"

The naive early on e-waster in me took the bait- mind you I am not an unintelligent man. I am well educated, street smart.. but that idea of basically "winning the lottery" got the best of me. I even had plans of one of our members coming to stay with me to sort all of this material in a large storage unit I had planned to rent.

Fact of the matter is this: And this is BOND: There is no where in the world that there is 1 full gaylord of ceramic processors. NO WHERE!

I work with a HUGE R2 facility locally and after 2+ years of collecting off their literal truckloads of materials daily- they just sent 80 lbs of ceramic processors to be refined. 80 lbs! In 2 years- let that sink in!

I hope that you will return to us and tell us what happens. I really hope that you don't feel ashamed if this goes south. Please do let us know all the details of how this goes down. It will be an invaluable bit of information to put out on the web for others to learn from and maybe.. just maybe it will stop the flow of this scam.
    OR
If you are here to test out to see if people will "Take the Bait" you will not "tell us how it turns out" because we will all know you are the one running the scam!

Take extreme caution. Do you have a TRUSTED confidaunt (sp?) in Egypt? Someone you know and have dealt with before? Someone who knows what they are buying? So they can look the load over before purchase? With no guarantee, you could just get a load of brown tv boards.

I do have trusted friend who is going oversight the buying process. The deals in egypt is you check the scrap yourself and make deal on the spot. Again, I am hoping to have more of the old pentium 3 or lower as the majority. Its likely the board will need some cleaning as the people deal with this stuff in egypt are low level traders who just want to make living. And no, I am not looking for purchaser in this forum. I am just hear to get your feedback as knowledgable community. I already spoke with multiple buyers in Wisconsin and couple of websites. I am also considering ebay which is easier and safe.

Sledge, I too noticed the Egypt location. Seems a bit strange considering he's going by "usa380". And did we all notice that he skipped over addressing the "Egypt" issue?

USA380, the safest place to sell anything in the e-waste business is right here on the forum. If you have contacted some buyers up in Wisconsin, then why did you mention earlier about selling to refineries in Chicago? Your best place to sell is right here and send out the loads. If you are thinking about testing the waters here on the forum, and you are truly in the Chicago area, Then I would be the first to offer up the shipping to one of 2 buyers in Wisconsin that are off of this forum that are great to deal with.

If the shipment is a full Gaylord, I'll even help you sort it out and get the best return.

This is a very seasoned forum and people here are truly like a family and the couple of interactions that I have had with members have been great, so I am saying to you, if it is all true, then I would help you out but if its fake, please don't pull our chains.

Don't forgot, we all love pictures that are genuine and we all can tell if they are stock photos.
