Film Cameras

Just a note: film cameras that feature some sort of "digital elements" also have small boards inside!
Sometime in the future I'm going to make a video of me ripping apart 8 different cameras to see if it's worth the hassle ...
Here is a video showing the first time I scrapped a film camera out !

The higher end ones you can find gold on the boards.

I take cameras, an will break them down. I'd never pay for them unless they were some really high end cameras, like professional quality. Personal use digital cameras never impressed me for the amount of work to get all the goodies out. To many screws and a pain in the ass unless your using the big hammer method of scrapping. The high-end I'd sell, even if broken. Expensive cameras have a parts market also.

An yes I'll bust out the big ass hammer to smash a few cameras. Or sell'm to you people who'd prefer to resell everything on ebay. Ha!

Anyhow...my opinion. YMMV.

Never bothered with the film cameras, but the digital cameras you can sell whole, some ewaste buyers buy them. I got $0.75/lb for them a few weeks ago. Not much, but I never pay for them, and not worth my time to take apart.

I have had luck in selling non-working cameras as props and some of the parts have refurb value, too. And I think I sold one or two old working Polaroids. Hard to recall, exactly, but I'm positive I've done better in upcycle supply and antiques dealing than shred price for old SLR's. Digital cameras are more of a hassle, though; I sent a few to a buyer of ink carts and was neither pleased nor disappointed in the return, as they price by the megapixel and these were older cameras. They paid shipping, anyhow, and I had a whole mess of carts to fill the bulk of the load. I'm prepping another box of cameras, only, and I can keep you posted of that result.

I noticed on Boardsort that they are buying DLP processors, the part which converts light into digital signal (and vice versa) common in modern projectors. I also noticed many digital cameras seem to have a small version, though I am not sure it's exactly the right thing. I haven't dealt with Boardsort and can't speak to their preference.

Yea, classics like the old school Polaroids, an the like I'd never hammer time. Those would be sold or held for my own private collection. The newer digital an even newer film(Not the high end film ones) tend to just not be worth the bother for ME..an that is the key word there..me. As I like to say an you all get tired of hearing...what may work for me, may not work for you.

@Breakage..First I love your screen name. Heh. Second, thank you for sharing. I can't speak for the others but I would interested as I'm sure others would in your results on that box of cameras. I don't deal with boardsort, or keep up on what they pay, as I'm quite happy with the buyers I currently use. I won't comment on Boardsort other then they seem to work well for some folks, an not so well for others.
