This was some computers and phone systems I brought home that had been stored in an old trailer for years. The smell of animal crap and pee was real bad so it sat outside in the rain for a while and everything was processed on the tailgate of my truck.

Nice score on those computers jimicrk. Well worth working through the mouse nests.

Yes it was worth it but I felt sorry for the guys that had to clean out the trailers. They were inside the trailers picking up the PC's and other items and throwing them in construction dumpsters. I was retrieving the scrap from the dumpster so most of the critters were gone.

I just learned this the hard way the other day. I don't think I ever ran that fast from a computer - or really anything in my life. Snakes, spiders, mice don't bug me - I am not a fan or anything of them but... Roaches and maggots - NO. If anyone had seen me they might have laughed seeing a relatively large man run away from a computer swearing out of shock and disgust.. maybe fear. I really wanted to burn my truck, garage and clothes after this. I have worked in IT a long time and have NEVER seen this. Last time I pick up a home use computer from someone I don't know. Not stopping at that house again either.

Needless to say my truck and garage and everything in the garage is clean and anything moving in the garage besides me was killed 3 or 4 of them were still crawling slowly on the motherboard.

I get some sort of infection symptoms if I come in contact with anything mouse related. I think it might be a sensitivity from dimming n contact with mouse nests & dead nice from around fridge compressors.

I also had a lot of mice in & around the house when I had a couple of chickens outside, they were eating the spilled chicken pellets & such. There a something you can catch off mice, rotovirus or something.

So if a computers been left outside or seems dirty, they get a good spray with some kitchen cleaner spray, with a little denatured alcohol after to it, then as soon as its opened, a good spray again over the board's & cables, that keeps the dust down.
I figure inhaling the dust is worst, but even hand mouth or eye contact, will transfer some sort of virus into your body. It's best to be safe & sure than risk it.
Power supplys get dunked in disinfectant & warm water & let to drain before they get taken apart.

any computer that looks suspect to me, i give it a few good boots or throw it from a high place- its going to be scrapped anyway.
that way i know that any creepy crawlies etc inside know they have to get out- the same way they got in

if that dont work-, i open the cover and expose the inside to direct sunlight- they dont like that.
