    wow

Disassembled some servers to day and came across some IBM U5s that were so old the boards were made in Japan and you could actually see the MMLCs with the necked eye ! ( Only IT scrappers will get this one.)

it is funny and sad at the same time as it points out the direction manufactures are going. On newer servers the goodies on the board are so small you need a magnifying glass to see them.

The Tantalum capacitors are now less then 1/8 in square and the Rhodium MMlcs are nearly invisible.

Since both are heavy metal on 14,000 lbs of boards over a year your talking a sizable weight difference so, It scrappers, when you combine the drop in prices + the weight loss your job is going to be harder and your yield is going to be less.

Put this in your plans and pricing for the next year.

I'm not sure what an MMLC is but recently me and a co-worker was looking at a CPU for one of the new phone systems we are installing. We both scrap computers and telecom equipment and we were commenting on how small everything is getting.

MMLC - monolithic multi layer ceramic capacitor....they are the little rectangular things (generally grey in color) that popular many boards in electronics....they have a very small amount of platinum/palladium in them

    wow

i have been scrapping out late eights to mid ninety cpu, servers, and data collection boxes for the past six months pretty steady ( landed a source that has storage lockers full of them from an IT business that started in 1984). i know the mmlc's had to have some value when i started so I have been collecting them since the beginning. just curious what are they worth per lb? last time i weighed the container it was just shy of 12 lbs. also should i sell them or refine myself. i am pretty good with my gold refining from the never ending ceramic cpu's i usually get 24k after two cycles. I use nitric acid method. i guess my question is , is it worth it to refine myself like the gold is. ( usually double or more than if i sold ceramic cpus for scrap) any advice would be greatly appreciated!
