Sweet ! The three hundred I6 is one of the best motors that Ford ever produced. I've had a couple of 302's,351's & 300 I-6's over the years. Given the chance i would take the I-6 any day. It's a great motor for a work truck because it develops lots n lots of low end torque.Quote:

I was once in a business that offered the "bed rug" as a product. I never did sell one but was impressed with the quality. If its the same thing they are unaffected by most chemicals you would find in the scrapping business. They are resistant to oil, gasoline and battery acid, by resistant seemingly unaffected. Mike

Good milage and can pull better than most big blocks if you know what you are doing. I have owned both types of 5 speed and preffer the mitsubishi varient. I have also owned one with the a4od 4 speed auto and a 4 speed manual. I have had the following engines. (6) 300, (1) 302, (3) 351(W, C, & M), (1) 400, (1) 460. The best was the 300 for balance of torque, hp & milage.
4 speed manual with granny low gear / 5 speed and a 300 inline 6 is what ford used in the 60's-70's in full size dumptrucks. They may only do 45mph in a dumptruck.that size but you are talking moving potentially 15-20 ton or more depending what the load is.
Also the old mail and ups trucks have them as well.
NEVER ask if the 300 can pull it... ask if your truck can hold the load and plant the tires.
Your power band is 1500-3500 for torque. You run it any higher and you are loosing horsepower and torque, drinking fuel and doing one of 2 things that will kill that motor. Dont over rev (above 3000-3500) and dont get them hot and you can put that motor in 2-3 more trucks before it gives up. Those motors can run 350k - 500k easy with proper maintence.
I should rephrase that- I'm mostly concerned about the Mazda 5-Speed they used (M5OD).
The 300 is one heck of an engine! My 1987 Chevrolet R10 with the 305 will outrun the 300 for speed, but the 300 would easily be my choice for anything loaded.
Has anyone worked with the Mazda 5 speeds. Any strengths or weaknesses?
What was the Mitsubishi 5 Speed? I've only heard of the Mazda M5OD and the ZF5 being offered in the 90's Fords.
Has anybody other than bcrepurposing used a 300 I6/M5OD Setup? If it helps, the truck has the 3.31 Rear End. Any thoughts on how it'll do?
ditto on the load bars. also i seen a guy using old laundry carts (one with canvas). he put all his stuff that was not stackable in them and locked them in with his bars. made loading and unloading easy and fast! i love easy and fast! all this talk of bars has made me thirsty! lol. hope this helps.
