We need Andy Griffith for this one. Harry on Salvage 1 TV show from the 70's. Does anyone remember that one? I loved it because they took on amazing salvage jobs. (Maybe that subliminal suggestion is why I'm into scrap now....hmmm.) I only really remember one episode where they went up to salvage a satellite for the gold. It wasn't real, but a good show anyway.

I wonder who'd scrap the bridge first, and then post asking if anyone has ever done one, an if there any good boards in it..

I could see the email now.."So, got this slightly radioactive, charred upon reentry hunk of metal. What kinda prices you guys paying?" "Is it ok if it still has liquids in it? No, I'm not sure what kind..some kinda rocket fuel,I guess.."

Instead of...TO INFINITY AN BEYOND! We could use...TO SCRAP AND BEYOND! Have to have it in caps, since my awesome impersonation voice wise can't be used here.

Sirscrapalot - Waiting for the next episode of "Lost in Scrap".

Asteroids, considering that most if not all of the platinum group metals, specially the more rare ones, came to Earth as asteroids, and considering that there are millions upon millions or perhaps billions upon trillions in our solar system alone. And that some are comprised of Platinum Group Metals in high percentages. And that the UN has recently opened the door to mine these space rocks, I think you can see where I am going with this.

China already is exploring this possibility with the intent to actually make it happen.

Lasso those big space rocks and mine them to dust. I personally believe this will be the next big thing in precious metals mining.

They are doing because the amount of money you can siphon off governments ans communication companies would be ENORMOUS...the scrap value would be trivial. The debris has to be tracked to make sure that some like a 1 inch piece or so doesn't hit a satellite or the space station at like 17,500 MPH....ie it would be BAD. They track somewhere in the neighborhood of 100K objects that size and there are SEVERAL companies trying to figure out how to deorbit that stuff....basically cleaning up the mess that has been left out there and exacerbated by collisions of the small chunks.

    the $$$ would be ENORMOUS.

Never heard of it. Must have been an ABC show because we did not get that network where I was from. Youtubed it and watched the pilot episode. Andy Griffith scifi. Who would have thought. I kept waiting for Don Knotts to come through the door as a bumbling deputy co-pilot.
