    First computer of 2017

I've decided that there's going to be a few changes this year. I don't deal with the volume that many of you do but tearing apart 400 pounds of hard drives is not something I'm going to do anymore. I will remove the circuit boards but the rest of it will get folded in half or destroyed by other means. Copper/Aluminum heat sinks will be sold as is. I spent a lot of time knocking the bases off of about 200 pounds of these and to me it's just not worth it. I'll still remove the boards from CD/DVD drives just because they're so easy to get to even though they are getting smaller. I'm also looking at other options to scrapping printers, flat screen monitors and other electronics. Got to get this stuff out a lot faster and quit piddling around with things that are time consuming.

    Jimi,

See my post in the clubhouse. Might be able to work that angle and make / save even more.

I was finishing up on some servers and computers this morning and had these 2 items left.

JVC SR-L911US VCR and a Dell PowerVault 124T

The VCR looks to be in good shape so I'll probably hang on to it for now. I'm not sure about the Dell PowerVault 124T.

Since I think no companies manufacture VCRs any longer there may be a sweet spot in selling it. What I mean to say is if someone still watched Video tapes and their VCR breaks they may be in the market for one and pay a good price to have one.The other angle is that many people may still have family movies on VHS that they would want to watch and may need a VCR to watch them.
A while back when music CDs became the medium of music and no one manufactured turntables any longer I could not get my hands on enough turntables - they were selling as soon as I got them. Just a thought - not sure if it would work out. I have a stash of new and good used VCRs that I am getting ready to release as soon as I think " the sweet spot " where there is demand but little supply becomes a reality. I still have alot of VCR tapes and still have a VCR connected to my TV however I have not watched a tape in ages.

High end audio visual equipment can usually bring some decent money..........I doubt that VCR will bring much as it was used as a security camera deal and that technology has left that model behind......

Yep, at one time they were using it for their security cameras. The connections on back are for coax cable but they also have some coax to rca adapters. I thought I'd hook it up and see if it works. We still have a lot of vcr tapes and a vcr but I'd like to have a backup just in case.

Not sure about the PowerVault 124T. If I can't find someone local that's interested, I'll probably just throw it in with my shred. There's nothing inside as far as good circuit boards.

Thanks. Nothing fancy but it works. I need to move those closer together and add some more.

    ShoreTel UC Server 20

Every now and then I will receive equipment unopened in the original box. I brought home 4 items the other day new in the box but the condition was that they had to be scrapped. So I turned 2000 dollars worth of phone and data equipment in to about 20 dollars worth of scrap. I hate it, but it was either that or I didn't get it at all.

I've been wanting to get my hands on some of those. Heard they are pretty good as far as standard electronic equipment goes. Living about 20 minutes away from Atlanta, I should be able to eventually grab some somewhere. I also go dumpster diving (just looking at what is on the side of the road near houses and major businesses) to see if anyone is throwing anything out. I have scored several laptops/desktops and stuff like that since I have started.

Nortel Business Communications Manager telephone system

I rescued this BCM400 from the dumpster the other day. The 4 cards on the right side had already been removed but the upper and lower trays on the left side were still there.

The top tray has the hard drives and the board they connect to.

The bottom tray has all of the good cards. Large socket mother board with a green fiber processor, a riser board, a big gold finger board, 1 stick of memory and a few small lower grade boards.

A little bit of wiring and 2 more boards.

    2 power supplies.
I've been saving my power supply boards because the price I get is not to bad. These 2 have gold plated fingers and I will remove and keep them. This is one of the few times I actually remove gold fingers.

Well that's about it. I've scrapped many of these and they've all been the same. You can always count on getting a large socket mother board as long as it still has the lower tray.

I've been picking up a few things here and there this month but not a whole lot. I finally got all of the computers, battery backups, servers and phone systems taken apart and decided to make a scrap run and sell my shred and transformers. I sold 149 pounds of batteries yesterday at .20 a pound from the battery backups. Today I hauled in 700 pounds of shred at 110 a ton and 108 pounds of transformers at .25 a pound. The best part is that my wife told me to keep the money.

Wish I could get 25 cents a pound for transformers locally. Do the check to make sure they are all copper?

Back when shred was 200 a ton I was getting .30 a pound for transformers and electric motors. They check a few of them but not all. I've only seen 2 that were aluminum and they came out of a microwave.

I picked up some stuff on 2/6 and on 2/13 and it's been sitting in the driveway since. I hate to let things pile up so I took a half day off and came home and started working on it.

There's still about 20 desktops and a server left to breakdown. If I can get my arse up early enough I'm hoping to get the rest taken apart and the metal hauled off to the scrap yard before they close at 12.
