I've been busy in the garage today trying to get things under control again.
The first pic are some mother boards from some "all in ones". Not sure if that's the proper name for a monitor and pc built together. It's the first time I've scrapped any of these.

I got a call several weeks ago from a friend who had just installed a phone system and the customer wanted the old one removed and decommissioned.
It was boxed up and ready to load when I got there. They also had about 13 computers and asked if I wanted them also. I left the hard drives with them along with my contact info. I love getting calls like that.

Yes sir, Sir. I'm on a mission to find that legendary ounce of gold. I never could find it in all of the computers I've scrapped so I'm looking in phone systems now.

I was getting some telecom boards boxed up yesterday and wanted to share a few pics that shows what I remove to get a better price without devaluing the boards.

IBM 39J2720 Server

I had to Google this because I wasn't sure what it was. I picked it up last week under the condition it would be completely scrapped.

Once I removed everything I decided to plug all the boards back in and just take 1 pic. It had 4 hard drives and 5 PCI cards. The mother board had 1 big white ceramic processor and 3 smaller ones. Several of the PCI cards had white ceramic processors also. All of them are soldered on.

IBM FC5095 PCI expansion unit.

I brought this home a few weeks ago and the thing was a beast...needed help loading it. I had set it aside from the rest of my scrap because I wanted to take it apart. My wife found it and had just finished getting most of the cards out. From the look on her face it was a PITA.

So we ended up with 12 hard drive boards, 2 back plane boards, 4 PCI's and a big motherboard? I was hoping to find a big ceramic processor on the motherboard but it had a small green fiber processor that was soldered on.

NEC DTH-4R-2(BK)

These were actually some good phones back in the day and a whopping 900 MHz. The base unit allowed a digital phone to connect to it and you could switch between the digital phone and the cordless phone.

The only reason I knew about these phones was there was some in a box on one of my recycling customers for a local networking company.........Anyway basically untested got a couple hundred for 3 of them

This is the first time I've sold hard drive magnets and it will probably be the last. I've been giving a lot away to friends and co-workers because they can be useful for many things. The rest have been filling up a large priority box. After shipping I should clear about 35 dollars.
I don't plan on taking anymore hard drives apart in the future and my wife agrees. I'll still remove the boards but that's all.

I only remove the eproms because they are heavy and it doesn't take many to make a pound. I don't remove flat packs, IC's or TA caps. That's just me.

APC SMX1000 Battery Backup

I replaced one of these a few weeks ago and wanted to scrap the old one and take some pics. Unfortunately, all of the battery backups I've brought home lately will not work and are scrapped.

This is what most of the batteries that I get look like. Swollen so much the tray will not slide out. After removing the top cover I had to bend the metal chassis and tap the tray out with a hammer. This one had 21 pounds of batteries.

One 5 pound transformer and a small circuit board. Transformers may be sold as is or I might use my band saw to cut them for the #2 copper. It just depends on prices, the amount of other more profitable items I have to process and how I feel at the time.

I would consider this phone system the "turd" of all phone systems that ever was or will be. I took great pleasure in taking this system apart. It has some good cards but that's the only good thing about this system.

This is a very easy system to take apart. A few screws and the rest is plastic locking tabs. Once you open it up you'll see the circuit boards have no screws, just plastic tabs.

The big board is about 11"x15". Top right is the power board and under it is the software board. There is very little wire in these and at the bottom are 2 green batteries that needed to be removed.

This is a M7208 phone and there were about 15 with this system.

There's not a lot in these phones. The bigger board is about 2"x3" and you have an even smaller display board, a few wires and a speaker.

This is why the boards are so small. All of the connections from the keypad and the feature keys and display are made via the mylar below. Phones without mylars have bigger boards.

Well that's about it for this system. A few good boards and lots of plastic that no recycling facility in my area will take.
