With VCR's beings sold at much lower prices now than when they first came out, they wouldn't be using "precious" metals in them, especially that big. Most electronics use trace amounts, and normally they are only found in the circuit boards if they have any at all because of the more durable conductive state they possess.

As for it not bending, I can't remember what the guy at the yard told me now as it has been awhile, but the aluminum like that is sorta like a cast aluminum.
