so i think i got screwed can someone help me out

So i went over to the scrap yard today and i think i got screwed. Now mind you i am fairly new to scrapping computers, but the other daybi had scored 17 computer towers and 12 laptops for free so really no matter what i did i was in the black but i decided to break them all down leaving me with the mother board ram harddrive (though most didnt have one) cd/disk drives cpus heat sinks and power boxs. So in doing all this i figured i would maximize my profits instead of the 25-35cents a pound other wise. Apparently i was wrong... after weighting in each component seperate i totaled out to 80$ and if i left them all together amd sold them whole i could have gottom roughly 110$ according to my yard.

So what did i do wrong?
Should i have left them together? Go to a different yard? If so where in the philly area should i go?
Any advise/ answers would be greatly appreciated because i was deffinally expecting more than 80$...

Do you have a breakdown of what prices you were paid for each item. Alot of scrap yards do not deal with individual parts because they do not understand escrap.

well the motherboards alone should have netted you a least 71 dollars based at ea mobo being at least 1 lb at 3.00 lb

Assuming most components were there, I estimate the value of at least $300 minus shipping. You need to use the buyers on here for boards and such, and look around for a yard that understands the value of a power supply, fans, etc.

You also might have done better, at least on the laptops, by having tried reselling them. Always check the model numbers and see what they are selling for.

WOW, This is a really good reason why we keep telling people to do some reading.
Look in the buyer/ seller section and you can answer your own question about how bad you got hosed.

actually sounds like "your yard" is rippin you bad bud. As I re-read your post I was wondering what kind of laptops. Those bring a premium on Ebay, and are easy to ship. What kind of towers too? Then I got once again to the part they told you be worth more leaving them together, and the only way I can see that being so is if they planned on reselling them together, as working units! yep, i'd guess you got ripped ; ) Read up! and better luck next time

There is a listed buyer right in your hometown. He will buy memory and harddrive boards. would also still like to know the prices you got and whats the name of the yard. You can help someone out to not make the same mistake you did and avoid selling to that yard.

Tearing down laptops never seems to be a good idea. They almost always have far more value complete.

If you did your reading(homework) then I have two questions for you. First why did you take e-waste to a scrap yard? (never a good idea in my opinion) Second why are you asking us if you got screwed?(you knew the answer to that before you asked) I hope you had some Vaseline.
