They're a pain to take apart with little to no payoff if you are scrapping them.

    Tater-
I just scrapped a Sunfire not to long ago. In it was a JVC CD Player. Probably a 10 year old model. I sold it for $20 bucks, which was far better than the $1 or so I'd get if it went into the trunk for weight. Aftermarket ones will sell on CL. OEM's.. Not sure yet. I have a BMW radio up there on CL right now and after a week- no nibbles. So If it doesn't sell, it'll become scrap car fodder as well! Good Luck.

I used to pick up a fair few car radios and everyone had a pretty nice Alu heat sink at the back. Four or five easy screws to remove

I picked up a CarCraft magazine from 1974 in a box of random mags at a garage sale. The only reason I kept it was because of the ad for Craig's latest 'n greatest hi-tech 8-track player. MSRP of only $459! In 1974 dollars! Was a "holee cow!" moment for me.

Looking at the cd players in a purely escrap light there isn't much aside from the heatsinks and a little bit of copper wire. Some laser diodes are gold plated, but a little hard to get. The stereos with the quick removable face plates do have gold connectors from faceplate to body.
