I made my first ewaste purchase. I got 4 complete towers. I did pay a lil to much I think. I paid 30 for the 4. That is 7.50 a piece. Based on my reading. That is not terrible though. What do you guys think? I got the contact by making a Craigslist ad similar to what the TheDude80 did. I also told the guy other items im interested in and gave him my card. Sounds like he will be a repeat. I sure hope so. Well anyways. Time to research what I got.
A little pricey but you might come out ok. Watch for items that have more than scrap value including Dell power supplies, pinless P4 processors, 1 gig and bigger RAM and 80 gig and bigger hard drives.

You did fine, now go buy some more. Helps to have a set pricelist of what you buy and at what prices. That way if you do raise you final total up you can show that they are getting a good deal and will likley become repeat customers.

white one left side of the picture i used to have one, i think its a dual core and the board will take a quad core cpu, if im not mistaken, i wouldnt scrap it out, $40 for a quad cpu and you got a nice machine assuming the rest is there and works.

I've got 2 dells. 1 gateway. And 1 I believe someone Built them selves. It has an amd in it. I believe the rest are all P4s with pins. If if its a dell computer. Is it an dell power supply? Also 3 had 2 256 sticks ram. One of the dells had 2 20 hdds. Gateway had this pretty stick of ram. One of em had this pretty heat sink. What you guys think?

Oh. Also have a 120 gig hdd out of the bunch. And yes. I will set a price list and stick to it. Sooner or later have a test bench. I'm telling myself slowly but surely.

Well you might want to check out my buyers thread for the more than scrap value stuff. The heatsink is copper alluminum. Either break the alluminum off or turn it in as is. My yard will give me copper alluminum price for them whole. Usualy $1 less than #1 copper. The ram stick is what most people call rambus since it has a heat spreader on it. If you like to ebay you can sell the dell power supplies for usualy 5 to 10 bucks plus shipping if you power the pc up before you tear it apart and make sure it works. Mostly only the 300 watt and above ones seem to sell well though. The rest sell real slow.

Also saw another guy posting about e-scrap on craigslist right in my area. I never saw a posting on there before mine, so some people must have caught on. I talked to a guy a few days ago & he gave me the hint of adding "Can travel" to any adds where you want computers.
People obviously don't want to fill a car up with messy old computers & take them to somewere where they might not even be able to dump them anyway, or end up being highjacked & having to actually PAY to get rid of them.
I'd still go with my "One computer gets you One Lb of quality catfood" idea. Computer people seem to be Cat lovers as well.
Mewling cats are so hard to ignore when they are hungry, That'd be motivation to pick up the phone & make the call you want.

Why are dell power supplies worth more than scrap? Are they eBayable or something?

Just to clarify something: Rambus is a specific type of memory that has a heatsink on it. Not all memory with heatsinks are Rambus.
For example, normal (non-enthusiast) DDR-type memory sticks generally do not have heatsinks on them, but when the company bumps the speed/voltage on them it increases heat output so they will usually affix aluminum heatsinks to the memory. This does not make it Rambus.
Additionally, this type of memory just has the heatsinks clipped on, rather than riveted. Easy to remove.

I haven't sold any Dell power supplies but a lot of P4 Dells have a proprietary power supply so I imagine there is some kind of market. I never even knew this until I fixed my father-in-laws computer over this past weekend and I had to dig through a pile of power supplies to find a Dell power supply that would work. I also had a problem with the power button and had to buy a used power button for 5.00 off ebay despite having about 15 Dell cases laying around. I like Dell less and less.
