    Oops..

My uncle passed away 4 years ago and he owned 2 companies. One that created software for manufacturing and another that made the computer systems to run the software. When he passed away we had to clean out his shop and threw away several hundred pounds of circuit boards. This was long before I knew anything about escrapping. Wish I knew better back then...

I was just wondering what some of your oops stories might have been, since I obviously lost a decent coin on mine.

Oh yea. I brought this up because I was cleaning out my aunts garage today and found close to another hundred lbs of low grade boards and some of the computers and other machines he used.

I'd be one to believe the escrap value may have been the least of your loss. Some knowledge of boards, computers, and vintage or collectors markets may have helped you more

My dad used to own an estate clean out business and I remember cleaning out the home of a teacher who had recently passed away. In her garage she had a 2 or 3 older apple computers that we just tossed out. We didn't believe we would be able to sell them because they were too outdated... oops.

A local medical facility paid over $100,000 to have 300,000 pounds of lead removed from their radiation therapy vault.....wish I had heard about that before it happened.

Was the lead radioactive from getting hammered with X-rays for years?

lead does not gain radioactivity from alpha, beta, or gamma radiation. it merely gets "warm" from the added energy waves. then it cools back down again, but it never starts giving off its own radiation. only unstable elements will do this, and only in terms of their radioactive half-life.

    good question though
