Most Common E-waste Not Recycled Properly

In your opinion, which 'often collected items' posing a hazard, are probably not being recycled properly?

There are of course the most notable ones, CRT glass and LCD displays. But what else?

For me, it's the plastic. I can't get anyone to take it except the dump. This also includes all of the software (cd/dvd/floppies).

Decorate the side of a house/building/trailer/etc with them on the outside. New age age roof tiles..

Be crazy to roll up on that with your high beams on.

I would have to agree with plastic. Its pretty much the only thing out of electronics most people have a problem getting rid of.

But of course the #1 thing would be CRT tubes

California subsidizes the buyback of CRT tubes which makes them easy to get rid of here. Actually, the people of California subsidize it with taxes paid when purchasing monitors or televisions. You need a name and address to put with each one though (I think it's up to 6 per person per year).

CRT tubes. One my local yards have stopped buying the boards to the CRT TV's. They wouldn't even take it as steel shred. Is that a sign of the times.

My biggest issue is the plastic, as I have a place to donate CRT tubes to.

I know what you mean, but I would be more interested in knowing that they get recycled into new material

I don't know if they are recyclable but people throw out those long fluorescent tubes that supposedly contain mercury right in the trash here - all the time.
They are not ewaste but it really upsets me - maybe I should put it in the grinds our gears/pisses you off threads.

I finally found a plastic buyer in my city. In my excitement, I didn't even ask how much they pay for it. They provide gaylord boxes for storage, and they pick up. Even if they didn't pay for it, that's a **** good deal compared to me throwing it away. *Plastic Scrap Dance*

    No. They're hazardous material.
