Surprised my my recent Ewaste load

Well I won a online surplus auction for 35 computers recently except I had to drive near 700 miles roundtrip. I of course was assuming they should have been small form factor Pentium 4 towers so they could fit in my 4 door saturn with the rear seats gone.

Well I was shocked when I got there and seen 35 full size towers.......

Well after closer inspection, they were all Core 2 Duo units except for 5. Well my partner and I started loading them and got 25 in with no room to spare. We told the custodian that we will be back in an hour. So we went to a church parking lot and pulled out our tools. We took apart the 5 Pentium 4 units as well as seven core 2 duo units and brought the cases to a local junkyard(surprised that we got more per ton there than where Im from.).



Well got the other 10 units in and drove home. The specs on all units are,

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz
1024mb DDR2
80GB Sata Drives
DVD Burners

Checking on ebay and these processors go for $30+ Each! May actually install windows vista due to the COAs being on them and selling them as whole units.



We paid $205 including Gas to get these units. Figuring we sell the computers for at least $100 Each, thats over $2100 worth of sellables!

$100 each is a reasonable price for those machines. With a fresh install of windows and all drivers installed you should be able to sell them on Craigslist without a problem

I use a GSA Auctions and Govdeals, this was from GSA. Very friendly staff if a question is ever called in to them.

The problem is your gonna have a very hard time unloading that many c2d machines. Anyone thats waited for a computer is getting them right now due to windows 8 coming out and the holiday season sales , so theres alot of older c2d machines hitting the secondary market right now. Even at the give away price of $50 each i still think your going to have a hard time moving them. Maybe on something like that its better to donate than sell? Or you could always go around to the small local computer shops that sell used pcs to see if any of them are interested.

Exactly, I was thinking of this on the way home. Too many to sell without flooding the market and driving the price down. My plan is to head to a flea market while the weather is still nice and try offloading some there along with my collection of drives and parts. Even if I could sell a few of them and use the time to pass out business cards it would be a success in my book.

We only need to sell 2 of them for $100 each to recoup our investment. I dont count labor in stuff like this due to the fact that we are bored young adults looking to expand. We got plenty of time, and even more ambition to succeed.

Well if you get stuck with some we have a buyer for good used hard drives here and another one now that buys used dual core cpus at a fair price so you will still do pretty well on them. And your 50 miles from chicago so you do have a large pool of buyers to appeal to.
