    Email Marketing

I was sitting here a little bored, as both my kids and wife are watching tv, so I though "What the hell, I will email some pc repair company's around the area"

5 minutes ago, I scored 6 complete computers (minus a few missing the ram) from a guy who owns and runs a local pc repair business.

I thought it would be a waste of time, in a way, but looks like I am wrong. Closer and closer to that first shipment!

Anyway, point of this, is whether you are bored or not, try emailing a few places. Regardless if it is for junk, scrap metal, or electronics.

Well, so far, I am scoring nicely. I am getting 5 medium size towers, 2 older desktops, 1 mini desktop so far.

I am picking them up tomorrow after 4pm for FREE. The guy just wants the stuff gone. His exact words to me was

Just so we are on the same page, I am not expecting any money for this but you are not going to charge me anything as well, correct?
I wish I thought of doing this a while ago! lol

Nothing fancy or glamorous, but yeah, no problem.

The image ad I created in Publisher from Microsoft. The dimensions for it are: 18.098" x 8.843". You can make them any size you like of course.

    Anyways, here it is:

    ==============

Keep VIP Recycling in mind for all your recycling needs!

We do offer free pickup on medium to large pickups of electronics!

    =================

I also created the same thing to email to construction companies. Just changed the wording a bit and the image.

Well, here is some pictures of the PC's I scored. Out of 8 of them, I have 2, possibly 3 good ones for a resale. One of them, I might keep though for a spare PC or even a tester.

Anyway, take a look at all the pictures.

This one was 1 of like 2 or 3 HUGE heatsinks that I found.

3 of the PCs I got.

Just like the above picture, but you can see the top tower better.

    http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...20misc/PC2.jpg

The top one with no side is just scrap, as it is missing to much for a working computer, and has no side.

The guy mentioned this was a PC server that recently died on him.

    The other set of PCs.

Right now, I am trying to think of what route I want to go to sell the 2 or 3 that work. I will be testing them in a minute. Only thing I will have to do is upgrade the ram, as one only comes with 1gb of ram (2 512mb sticks), so I will upgrade it.

For those of you who sell the sellable ones, do you go with ebay, or craigslist?

Forgot to add. Several are P4s, and one is a Pentium D (never heard of that before)

Glad your email marketing worked for you. I have been sending out some for the last two days. I keep expanding my area trying to get a nibble.
I forgot from my marketing class on how many contacts it will take to make one sale. But I have to be getting close.
Glad it worked out so well for you.
Also it is amazing how many people do not have email address and only have stupid contact forms.

    Tell me about it.

I basically only filled out the contact forms, if it was like 3 or 4 fields. I ran across some that had like 15 or 20. Those I just passed on by. Wasnt worth it to me.

I for one, never have been one to think statistics. I just look at it like this, I could contact 10 people and the worse they can say is no, but if I think what % out of the 10 will say yes, none will because I will be to worried over it.

They have the contact form specifically to stop people like us from spamming them! :-)

That being said if you want to capture the email address *some* of them will create an email form and show their address in the To: field and you can capture it there.

George, good job on the leads. I have been email marketing myself and it works well. Are you just attaching your flyer? With contact forms I am assuming you can't always do that? How much verbiage are you adding? I usually just use one or two lines explaining what I do (straight and to the point) and it seems to work better than extreme deal (less is more).

If you scroll up and read post 5, that is the exact advertiser that I was using for electronic marketing...the stuff in between the ====

I used the same for other companies like construction, and heating and air. Just changed the image and the line in red.

That's what I figured, but didn't realize if you just typed in bullet form the items direct from your flyer or not (with regards to web contact forms). I usually just have a couple Notepad or Word files open in the background when I am email marketing and copy and paste ad into contact form (based on industry).

    Sorry.

As far as the web form goes, I just put in those 2 little text lines and that was it. As you said, less is more. I did it, so they would be curious and either call or email me.

I learned long ago, that if you put all your cards on the table from the beginning, then you have nothing to play with after.

George, Thanks for the idea. So far I have received 2 replies. First one wanted to know how big the load would have to be to be picked up free. Waiting to see just how much he has.
Second one said the words I love to hear "What do you charge?" Wait back to see what she has. Most likely I will pick it up free unless it is all Monitors.

Yes, I am going to pick stuff up for free, unless it is mostly monitors, etc.

Then she said she has alot of commercial customers that are always trying to find someone to take there scrap. She was going to pass on my name if it ok with me.

You better find out what her favoite thing to eat or drink is then send her a case of it. Her passing out your number could make you thousands. Best advertising there is is word of mouth.
