I have 4 pc chips that appear to do well on ebay. However, is it a good idea to sell them individually or grouped together?
Okay, so apparently now IC Chips are valuable too. But how the heck do you remove them? Is there a simple process? If not, I am not going to bother and just take that small loss.
George...Do you pay attention to anything that goes on around here?
I always look forward to your comments KZBell. Thanks for not letting me down!
I have tried that with the ones that have like 20 or 30 silver looks pins all around them, and the ones that don't. All it manages to do, is break chip apart.
wierd i have never broken a IC chip. Are you sure they are the socket-ed ones?

I am referring to these types of "IC Chips" perhaps are definitions are different, but these are what I am referring to.
On your top picture you can take a wood chisel and get under it but don't break the black top off. On the bottom picture you can use the corner of the chisel or a utility knife and score the les and it should pop off.
Agreed you would think with a join date of sep 2011 and close to 2000 posts you would pick up on things.
I think some one needs to go back too the noob section and read up, many of these questions have been answered many many many times and most are just common sense.
You commented recently it was just easier for you to start a new thread and ask a simple question, then to do some research. Well it's one thing for a noob to do that while they are getting started but come on...we expect a little more effort out of someone that owns so many businesses.
I said that I was guilty of doing that. Never said that it was easier.
Me owning more than one business has nothing to do with it. One business has not a thing to do with another.
You dont like the posts, there is a report button.
I asked a simple question. If you can provide an answer, great, if not, then don't, etc.
GEO those chips should be left on the board. If you take them off you will devalue the board. Unless your just taking them off the low grade stuff. I also use a wood chisel.
George no offense but you ask a lot of newbie questions..........My suggestion is find one of everything (EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO BUY IT) and take it apart and sell it.........Figure out what it's worth, if it's worth breaking down, and how much to pay again.....Monday I'm picking up four old gas pumps (Not antique or anything) I payed $80 bucks for.......To me $80 is worth the price of admision and I will know exactly what they are worth......I wish you all the best but I knew the feedback your getting was coming sooner than later..........Oh well to answer your question I don't ever remove those chips but some people sware by it
I think no matter how much is written it just doesn't sink in for me, but show me, just once, maybe twice, and i'll master it.
so I guess doing at least one of everything will give me just what I want to learn.
although I don't think i'll ever find an erotic vibrator out on hard rubbish day, and I do want to scrap one,
so there will still be newbie questions as there must be someone here that scrapped one?
But yeah, i'm holding at least one of everything, and some things different brands/models.
George, those chips are called flatpacks, it looks like a green board there, are you sure that is not a mid grade? If so it is worth it to leave them on, we usually pull the IC chips (that's the ones with legs on just 2 sides) off the brown boards only.
I am still learning the grades, so I couldn't tell you. Those are just images I pulled off Google last night.
However, those are the chips that I am talking about. I will take a look next time I get a brown board to see what you mean with it. I generally don't do anything with them. I try and maximize my storage with the more profitable stuff, so it is worth it to me.
Thanks for the input.
Yes, sometimes I do. I am good when it comes to metal recycling, and even junk recycling. However, the world of ewaste, is real different to me.
Not saying that I am totally dumb when it comes to it, but for those of you who can look at a PC and tell that it is a p4, p3, etc, or tell the full details of a stick of ram, or a hard drive, etc.
Well, I am still learning it all. I cant tell all of that stuff. I mean I get the differences between IDE and SATA hard drives if I look at them, the difference in motherboards if I look at them and their color, etc.
Just like with anything, it takes time, and when you don't know anything about sometime, you ask a question, so you can hopefully not make a mistake.
I use Google a lot to find answers to a lot of things when I get stuck.
I use this same software for my own site (and no I am not advertising anything admins/mods), and like it has been said before, the search functionality sucks. It only works if you d 2 or 3 keywords, but if you type in a sentence, well good luck.
Not going to happen. Its blended with the Aluminum. You should get a premium for those pieces. It all depends on your scrap metal buyer.
On the search button sucking.. Ive seen this comment a bunch over the last few months of scanning old post on here. Some probably know this but if you put, site:scrapmetalforum.com in google (not sure if it works the same in other search engines) and then put your desired search subject behind that, it come up w/ only results from the forum. if you leave a space after the : or if you leave off site, it will have a mixture of the forum results and other sites.
example if you were looking for ways to remove the chips.. i would put site:scrapmetalforum.com how to remove chips from boards in google search bar and this is what i got..
https://www.google.com/search?q=site...w=1280&bih=663
hope this helps someone.
Okay everyone, have a question. What is the easiest and simplest way of destroying the hard drives on imacs. I have 2 that work 100% and am allowed to re use them, BUT have to erase the hard drives and re install the os systems.
Unfortunately, for me, I never dealt with an imac before.
Any help or ideas is appreciated.
George the easiest way is to use the disk utility that is built into the software when you reinstall. From Disk Utility you can erase the hard drives and set them back up for reinstall. If you have any other specific questions shoot me a pm and I can help you with it. I do a pretty decent trade in refurbished macs.
I cant do PM's anymore. These 2 IMACS are already spoke for, before I even picked them up, but shoot me an email at georgebeale@viprecycling.com with some information on your trades. I will be getting more like these from the same client as she gets them in.
Also, in regards to the disk utility, I was reading the same information via Google. Just didnt know if there was other ways. My brother in law has an IMAC so I am going to see if he has a CD, if not, I will just get one.
Also, I have 2 laptops. I know how to get to the hard drive, by removing the top laywer, then the keyboard. Is that the only way to get to the hard drive and erase it, or is there an easier way then to dismantle the laptop?
I didn't mean I would trade you for them just that I work with them a lot but I can see how that would be misunderstood...:) I'll email you to talk some more.
Okay, so I tried Google's way of erasing the hard drives on imacs without removing the hard drives. Needless to say that did NOT work.
So, I dismantled the imac to remove the hard drive. Plugged the hard drive into my dell pc, and the pc is NOT detecting the hard drive at all.
Well let me rephrase that, my pc has a few different programs, including seatools with IS detecting the hard drive, but diskwipe, as well as "computer" is not recognizing the hard drive, and thus not allowing me to destroy it.
Any ideas on how to rectify this, because the "solutions" on Google are NOT working in my favor.
Okay, so I just learned something new. Google was right, BUT what they neglect to tell you, is that you MUST use another mac to delete a mac hard drive.
So that is currently happening now.
In the next post, will be a few pictures of the 4 desktop PCs I also picked up. 2 of them, have 2 of the biggest heat sinks I have yet to find. Also, one of them has 4 gb of ram, which I would have started using, but it is missing the hard drive.
So throw a H.D. in there and an operating system and you'd have a pretty good computer.Quote:

Okay, I took out a couple of pc chips from a few of the pc's that I got yesterday. One of them says 486 on it, but not sure if it falls into the $140 category.
I also have a intel pentium ceramic chip but except for serial numbers at the bottom, has nothing on it.
Perhaps someone can point me into the wrong direction.
Also, below is 2 different IC Chips. These, unlike the other stuff, are easy to pull off, but my question is this, in everyone's opinion, is it worth pulling them off the motherboards?

I am no expert but I would put 486 in this group AMD 486 & 5x86 110.00 /Lb.
The Pentium in this group Pentium 1 ceramic 44.00 /Lb.
This is BarrenRealms007 pricing I used.
Not sure what most people do about the other 2 chips.
intel 486 are the top payer amd 486 is less
