    Windows 8 upgrade forty bucks

If you're on Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7—and if you're reading this site and a human, you better be—upgrading to Windows 8 is going to be dirt cheap and totally worth it: only 40 bucks.

Starting in late October you will be able to download Win 8 for forty bucks from windows.com and burn it to DVD. The forty dollar deal will end in January 2013. Looks like you'll be able to get win 8 product codes for your old XP product codes.

Just be aware, if you're having no problems with your present system, and you use it as a base for an upgrade, and later decide you don't like Windows 8, you won't be able to return to your old system because the upgrade from it will effectively have killed that license.

anywho.. I wonder if there's a time limit from buying/burning that disk to installation

All Windows operating systems have full downward compatibility. You may have to call Microsoft, and they may even have to give you a new code and a download link. But theoretically, you could downgrade all the way down to Windows 3.x from anything else.

Eh, everything I've read so far is that Windows 8 is going to be the next Windows ME.

I'm more than happy with Win 7, it really is the best MS OS to date. Windows 8 is a complete overhaul, with that goofball Metro interface.

I stayed with XP for about ten years and I'll be sticking with Windows 7 for at least the same.
