    laptop mobos

are they graded higher than desktop mobos? through a search on here, i saw someone say they got telecom grade for theirs. they look like they should be. if not, im not sure its worth it to continue tearing down laptops instead of selling them whole.

also, do the buyers on here need the aluminum base under the boards removed? its screwed onto the main mobo with brass screws at the peripheral inputs.

I dont know for sure but id think that youd have to have a pretty large amount to get a buyer to bump the price up for laptop mb's. Most have a price for mixed mb's. Id like to hear a buyer chime in on this.

The base will need to be removed for sure. As far as a higher price?, Would probably take a solid load of them to get it. I don't get enough laptop motherboards to ever worry about that.

Last time I sold some boards, my buyer just put the laptop boards together with my other misc. high grade boards, and paid $4.25/lb for them. So I did get a slightly higher price, even if I only had a small quantity. I also hate doing laptops, tons of little screws, etc. Often use a hammer and a big screwdriver. I can do about 6-7 pieces/hour, not really worth it, but I do get a few here and there.

I save them up and sell in lots. I also try to repair them to sell and give away as presents. I buy up old laptops from the early 90's and late 80's whenever I get a chance. When things slow down from my lawn care business this winter, and get my stuff together, I plan on becoming a buyer of laptops here in the forums.

I've never "tricked" anyone into buying a laptop from me, but I have sold quite a few for $50-$75 each as well as sold a few on ebay "as parts" for more than scrap value, but you are right that laptops are getting cheaper everday, and we might not always be able to fix-up and resell laptops

yep, I agree with you all. That is why I have a pile of laptops three feet high. When I offer $1 for a laptop and people think that is too cheap I tell them working on them is like working on a corvette, really cramped.

Just sold one Sunday (paid $1.00) girl told me it was broken. I got home opened the lid and it started right up. A Toshiba Satellite with windows 7 got $110 and he (my buddy) resold it later that day for $160.00

I did put in a new battery, bought a charger and threw in a mouse.

Laptop motherboards should sell for slightly more than desktop motherboards. (Brackets & junk removed)

As far as tearing them down, you can sell the screen for 3.00-6.00 each, processors can be re-sold if new enough. We do not tear down every laptop but in some cases when you get them 80 percent dismantled then I think it is worth the effort.

I pull the hard drive, ram, and battery immediately because they are easy to get to. Then I stack them for later to pull out the mobos when I have more time.
