I have been selling on ebay for more than 15 years. I can tell you that postage at the post office costs more because the post office discounts online sales. If you go the post office website or ebay, does not matter, it is cheaper than in person. If they have to pay a counter person to help you then you have to pay for that in higher postage. Why you keep coming up with different results, I do not know but there are several factors that affect shipping. Box dimensions and weight have to be accurate. If they are not, then the shipping cost will not be correct. For instance, your receipt says 4.2 ounces. On ebay, any first class package under 8 ounces ships for $2.60 anywhere in the US.

I also weigh in on the no free shipping side of things. I have never offered free shipping and find it makes little difference. If you check prices you will see that items with free shipping cost more so the actual item cost is the same to the customer. Free shipping offers excitement to those that actually believe that there are free things in this world while the reality of customer paid shipping offers the security of the seller not going into pocket for shipping. If you use priority and first class, you can actually cover most if not all of you fees using the shipping discount.

Just a few thoughts from someone who does not often get involved.

Because of the unintended negative tone of this post, I want to add that the sale you made seems good to me. You found some trash and turned it into a few dollars, nothing wrong with that. I am just thinking to help you improve your ebay performance.

On many of my item I always go "free shipping" (costs me $2.60 like talked about above) The reason I do this? Many customers buy 2 to 5 lots of some of my auctions and every lot has that $2.60 built into the price. 5 lots will still only cost me $2.60. I just made an extra $2.60 on 4 lots.
