This is hard to believe, but he got a bid. It gets more ridiculous - he says if the bid goes too high, he'll thrown in more copper. Just wanting to give everyone a laugh. Hope the seller or bidder isn't someone on here. I have to think maybe the bidder went by the picture instead of reading the description - that comes to $24/lb.

I saw the same thing. Even the guys selling 10-20lbs of bare bright/#1 are getting full value and then charging shipping. who is buying this stuff?? and why am I not in on this?? Oh yeah because ebay is a pain in the as..s.. A fool and his money are soon parted!

Link still won't work for some reason but not all scrap copper is bought by scrappers. People that make jewelry and bracelets for show or medical reasons buy it.

No, for this auction, the winning bid was $1.50. But I looked at his feedback and he's sold several for even more than that. Feedback is 100% POSITIVE. I'd sent him a message basically asking about sending more if the bid got "too high" and saying I thought the winner was maybe misreading how much he'd get. This was part of his response:
I scrap , you do also (from your name) We know how to get copper .. Many people are not willing or looking to take apart or make certain sacrifices to get copper . So I decided to offer 1OZ copper as a concept of Copper is Copper for 1.50 I make about .75 cents, and I'll send a nice chunk of interesting or thick wire chunk or nickel coated copper
My last order, some body bid on the 2 oz and 1 oz , I think it was at $6 so there was no way I was going to take advantage so I went with total of 4 oz nickel coated wire and a 1 oz copper round = 5 OZ total I paid shipping .
I agree. Time to go out to the several hundred pounds I have stashed. Think of it. $24++/lb. I'll pay shipping, too.

Heh, smart fella. An this is true on what the seller wants it for. With copper, as we all know unlike the boards sold for refining can be going to many things. Crafters will pay for their materials, cause they will charge accordingly for a finished project. One of the ladies I deal with is a crafter and she was telling me all kinds of uses for things. I was asking her about the keyboard letters an such, an she seconded the thread on here about them. Folks will pay top dollar for that kind of stuff, for their projects. Thanks to that thread inspiring me to ask her some questions, I now have an outlet for even more stuff. From spacers an washers, to letters, to copper wire, and other items.
The copper wire(crafting stuff, not sold by the oz!) I knew about but never tried to sell that way. It's one reason I break down certain CBMs a lot of you consider pointless. My wife asked me one day if I had any wire, an I was going through an asking her if this size would work or this, etc. She pointed out the gauge she needed, an I now save those cbms, for her or her crafting friends(They make bracelets out of them.).
Crazy tho to hear folks paying 1.50 an oz as a scrapper. As we tend to deal in pounds, unless it's gold, silver, etc. lol. I hope some of you all do the same as the fella in the post.
Thanks for sharing Mick, and..whoever made that thread/post on keyboard letters...I forget sorry! It's a good example of thinking outside the box, an gives folks new ideas for another market to sell to.

1.50 x 16 = 24.00lb..Guess we gotta jack our prices up.
I know my copper for such things just shot up in value. Muhahaha. "But man, it's going for 1.50 an OZ on ebay! Me only charging you 1.25 is a steal!"

Really if you figure all the details the Ebay seller says .75 profit ( assume due to shipping) .75 x 16 oz = $12 profit then ebay & paypal take the cut , seems like less then $12 per pound & how it is acquired has some kind of cost to it.
The sellers other copper sales seem fair -
copper wire @ 5 # was $21
5# pipe was $35
figure shipping is $6 to $11
I'd say this seller is actually a low cost Ebay seller compared to other sellers
Guys and Gals we are to close to our metals , if scrapping was so easy every one would do it.
When I was really green I wanted metals .I was into it . I was ripe for E bay
& was duped a few times
1) Rail road copper communication wire looked like copper with nice patina
HA - month later I tested it and was steel core
2) I also invested in German silver by the ounce a few years ago the sellers
worded it so the inexperienced thought it was silver . Now there is a Note
mentioning German silver has no elemental silver. Still once in a wile
you see a winning bid on GS for $20 some gimmicks still work against the buyers who don't read close
it's sold as .999 pure the fact that it's an alloy of copper nickel and zinc -I feel it can't be considered pure

In it's own rite GS is a nice alloy but needs be priced as brass.

This sale per oz @ .75 profit sounds kinda fare for one ounce by mail
Yet If we take the above seller as to what he said , 3 oz was bid on but
actually increased it to 4 oz nickel coated copper wire and a 1 oz copper coin for $6
copper 1 oz coins on ebay sell for $2 to $4 and shipping
so figure 5 oz shipped must of been $2 and change . What did he really make, his coin came from some place his wire does not materialize out of thin air .
Wile I have no need for this deal cause I find it.
