It is being sold as scrap...Is there more scrap value in a 2gb stick vs a 1 gb or 512 stick???? Is someone just buying these with the intent to resell???

for reuse or resale, but even then the value isnt there, i can go to a retail store and buy 16gb of ddr3 for $100, 4gb ddr2 pairs are worth about $30 but after fees and shipping its more like $20

Seems a lot of times auctions end up going stooopid high just from people trying to ""win"". Or worse, people mad that they got outbid so they bid it higher hoping the guy they just outbid will bid it even higher. It's a game of chicken, not sensible investing. Dang.... I just realized the corollary between Wall Street & online auctions. They're really quite similar!!

There was an local online auction I had several items I was interested in... I went & inspected the lots, took notes, took pics, made informed bids. Lots that I had valued at $80, I bid $40, they sold for $400+. Crazy. The only one that was even close to reasonable was a lot of cables that went for right about what I valued it at... maybe $20 less.

And you can tell that the winning bidders have recent (higher) bidder numbers. So I suppose they'll realize they just overbid like idiots, lost a ton of $$ and they'll quit bidding..... but it seems there's always a new crop of idiots ready to take their places.

You're right, the value isn't there, certainly isn't there if they were refined.

Like with Pentium Pros, I think people purchase e-waste as a way of hoarding gold because it's difficult to counterfeit. It's relatively easy to drill out a gold bar, put lead in the middle and melt it back in such a way that it wouldn't be suspect, but it's far more difficult to fake a computer chip or stick of ram.

I have no idea what people were thinking bidding on this auction, but I think it's pretty obvious that someone is loosing out.

Well the auction said all chips were pulled from working enviroment. So I would think they are buying them as working not scrap. With that being said they are easly worth $15 each specialy if your looking to buy them for system building. I try to sell my 4gb matched pairs for $30. After shipping fees and cost of packing materials. You get about $24 a pair. Granted I take the time to test my ram chips and make sure they re good before selling them so there is a little more time involved than just saying they were working pulls. Personaly I would have paid more than $4 a stick for them to be tested than resold

Imo, let the "crazy" buyers on E-bay, do their thing. Mainly pay way more than stuff is worth.

U sell on e-bay, so, just be happy, some folks will pay way over the odds for stuff. btw and just to clarify, I'm not implying that you ask too much for what U sell on e-bay
