This is also posted on ewasted page
"Please remove batteries and excess AL and Steel"

What is considered excess in this case.........Alot of the metal is "soldered" onto the board...........If anyone has clarification would be helpful I need to move on these pretty quickly

Cannot speak for Ewasted but as is would not be mid-grade high for most buyers. Would more likely be in the $1.75-2.15 range.

Boards I sent like that, and ones that are out of TVs I think I send as is, with everything on it like it is pictured, and I don't know if I get periferal board or low-mid for it.

Things like router boards and boards with a lot of IC chips are periferal boards for sure, but I think the boards like that may be low-mid grade, due to all the stuff on them and the low amount of IC chips.... So I think they may be low-mid at like $0.70/lb or something like that, but as is with nothing done to them.

Maybe of you break off the av ports (steel) and the other large heavy metal chunks it's periferal boards, but I don't think so.

I would send them as is.

If you have a bunch and need to move them quick like you said (and plan to send them to ewasted) I would just send him an email directly with the pictures asking what you'd get for that as is and what needs off to get a higher grade.

Nothing needs to be removed to get a mid grade low or cable box board price. To get mid grade high can only speak for myself as a buyer but the glass reader, large plastic, large transformer and the steel box tops would have to prolly have to come off. Doing that fast in mass quantity I don't know. I don't know a short cut for removing the box tops. The other stuff comes off instantly with an air chisel. If it's possible to do at an acceptable margin would just sell as is.

My thoughts are that if it was just one mixed in with a bunch of cable or mid-high boards, they may just pass it through. I wouldn't want to think that all cable boards are just paid the same no matter what. These have the power board components attached as well...which in my opinion seriously devalues it. If I looked at it as any old board, it would be cleaned to be able to fit into mid-high category.

The question is how much of this needs to be cleaned to go for the mid grade high price of $2.75 on ewasted site

Have to wait for him to reply I guess... maybe it'll be a surprise, and it's nothing. If I was just loading right now, i'd twist off the transformers.

Just an opinion ... lol ... for what little mine might be worth. No authority on this.

Looks like mid-grade because you've got AC to DC changeover happening on the same board as the rest of the computing part of it.

I don't get many cable boxes but i do get satellite TV boxes. They are similar in form and function. If you look at the board ... one side of it is where the ac to dc changeover is happening. I find it's simpler for me to cut that part off with a pair of tin snips.

That leaves just the side with all of the goodies on it.

From there ... i usually pick off the metal tops and the RCA connectors. I use a razor sharp carpenter's chisel and cut the soldered side of the RCA connectors. They pop right off.

This seems to make em' passable for mid grade high. I don't know as i would recommend going to the extra work for someone else. It's just that my shipping costs are high. I try to ship the best quality so that there is the most bang for the box. It seems to yield the highest net profit / lb. after deducting expenses. Whether or not this is the best strategy ... i could not tell you. It's all situational.

I really wish you guys would actually read.
We all know what they grade as. A couple can pass through ok... but if you send a gaylord in, would they be down graded?

Correct and if they are to be downgraded what would need to be removed to upgrade them....I cleaned one entirely off and its obviously mid grade high without the heavier components

I went through a number of payout reports from different loads sent in and mine were classed as mid grade high. There's very little mid grade.

Mike, I sent in around 275 lbs of these cable box boards. To get the mid grade high, I had to knock off all the transformers and most of the AL heatsinks. For good measure, I took off some of the biggest AL capacitors and the removable steel caps on the shielded boxes. A few had some heavier steel that I took off too and some of the plastic, but the majority looked pretty much like yours minus the aforementioned items.

That looks about right. Definitely leave the card reader end. I think you can leave the side rails of the boxes on and just remove the lids. Like hills, I might do something with the RCA component connector block if only to make them stack better. Maybe smash it with a hammer and whatever comes off call it good.
