    How sort CPU chips?

So, I have been breaking down computers for awhile now and I have several different types of CPUs. What is the best way to sort them to get the most value?
    I have 4 ceramic

18lbs of fiber without the gold pins, some with the copper on top

18lbs fiber gold pins, again, some with the copper on top

    Thanks!

You want to sort them how your buyer wants them. This is a good place to start

    https://www.scrapmetalforum.com/sear...archid=3839387

CPUs range from $4/lb to $125/lb..... So, depending on your mix, sorting and who you sell to you are looking at $144 to $4500..... my bet would be on the lower end of that scale, probably looking at $200-$250 worth of CPUs

Also, I dont know of CPUs with copper on top? You sure it isnt aluminum or something?

If not mistaken ... the p4's and newer have a copper heat sink on top. It's plated with something silver colored on top.

One way you might start your sort. Pre-year 2000 were often large socket. Post year 2000 were generally small socket. The date of manufacture is often on the top of the processor somewhere.

For the sake of simplicity lets disregard the large sockets for the time being.

The small sockets come in four varieties:

    1: Cap with pins
    2: No cap with pins
    3: No cap no pins
    4: Capped with no pins

Check the capped with no pins (type 4) . These ones may have better than scrap value if they're core i 3, core i5, or core i7.

That will get you most of the way there.

Maybe post back in regard to the older large socket CPU's ?

Have you noticed if any of the pinless cpu's were i3's, i5's or i7's? Also look for any memory that's 2 gig and up for better than scrap value.

I just sent a small box of cpu's and memory to one of the buyers here. There was one i7 cpu that's worth 45 dollars.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Yea this too. Check for more than scrap CPUs in your lot.... they add up quick if you have any! I also send cpus to a buyer on here

Probably because boardsort isnt a paying member with a buyers post on here, and there are buyers on here with similar prices and service that are .... But I have used boardsort before and buyers on here. Boardsort was fine ... Just ok.

I thought they were pretty quick and processional, but I prefer how other buyers on here work.

On BS you enter your amounts and ship it and get paid out based on what you say (or less if they measure less)... But not more. Other buyers on here weight/count and then give you the price.

For example, say I think I have 10lbs of ram.

If I send to BS they weigh it, it says 12lbs, they pay me for 10lb because that's what I thought I was sending.

The buyers on here I can weigh and think I have 10lbs, but if they weigh out 12, I'll get paid for 12. Plus BS is just a faceless internet company to me. With buyers on here if there is ever an issue I can at least raise hell on here since they are active members with reputations to uphold on here.

In a pinch I would use BS again, but only if the buyers on here suddenly quit accepting product or if the prices were drastically different. But I haven't seen that happen and don't think it will.

Well i made a account with no intension of selling them anything, i just wanted to join their ewaste forum. So later i decided to send some stuff in and couldnt cause my account was missing info. I couldnt go back and edit it or make a new account cause of my ip address or email idk, and emailed chris about it. He was replying like i was an idoit. so he said to put a piece of paper with my info on it in the box and send it in. Why do that with my address on the shipping label, So i figured that if i send it the paper with my info it will "get lost" and i lose out on 53lbs of ram. It would have been my 1st time shipping ewaste but it sounded a bit shady to me.

Was it my fault for the missing account info, yes, but he could have done better like delete my account and have me make a new one or so rather than stick a piece of paper in the box. I dont know if this is a common practice in the ewaste biz, but it was a no go for me and didnt want to chance losing out 53lbs of ram, thats alot of ram

So you didn't actually send the ram......If it doesn't feel right it just doesn't feel right

Whenever I hear "I almost got ripped off", it makes me think of the people that say "I could of owned a 1964 Mustang in 71". We all have the chance to get ripped off or own something. Depends on what we want to pay or not get paid. You're all special, don't worry

I said west va. Not the midwest.

Clearly, you need to be banished to LA, the hot humid one, not the one that is going to shake til it crumbles.

You get banished to LA you might want to sing..
