Thanks for taking the time to send them to me! I have seen these on boards but never knew what they were. now I know!
Wow with that copper coil people would want to smash them open... Thanks for the info. Where would you dispose of them after removing from boards?
Usually you can contact your states environmental office and they can tell you where to dispose of mercury switches. Most states have a state or federally run mercury recovery program similiar to the National End of Life Vehicle Solutions vehicle mercury switch program. Some local transfer stations also accept some for free and some have a small charge for disposal. Best to contact your state or county for more information. Some states also provide a bucket to each person collecting mercury and provide a prepaid shipping label for when the bucket is full but this will depend on state and county we had this option at a few my locations when they opened.Quote:

This is fascinating. The only mercury relays I've ever encountered are on old car radios, looking like a loctal-base vacuum tube in a metal envelope. I have three or four.
If you listen, you can hear the Hg sloshing around.
