Well today, I get a call from a guy, he is about 2 and half hours away from me. He starts going on about seeing my craigslist ad, didn't seem like he would have that much by the way he was talking, he started saying his supervisors wanted to get rid of some stuff in the storage room, he said he had about 100-150 towers alone, alot of other stuff, printers, servers, switch and alot of stuff. I don't know what to offer the guy since he is like 2 and half hours away, and if I offer him my regular prices, I would be paying alot with gas and paying for them, I was thinking about maybe paying 3 bucks a tower or something like that to compensate costs. Anyways here is the pictures that I almost went to the emergency room for cause I almost fainted LOL.

By the way most of the big boxes on the shelves and stacked in the center contain computers aswell!







They said they wanted a fair price on this server tower because it works, What would you offer on this? I mean would I be able to sell it or what? I told him I could probably only offer scrap price on it, but I may be able to offer better prices.

I tell people "Sorry, but I'm buying it as scrap". I don't mess around with whether it works or not. If it works, they're better off selling it somewhere else. I learned that a long time ago when I was buying just batteries.

I'm probably not a good one to answer that as I don't get many and what I do get, I offer a set amount for the whole lot. But I figure servers at a little less than towers. Usually, about 10% to 20% less.

So many variables to take into account, but I'll take a stab at it for you. I think you should quote a guy a price on the towers (emphasize that they need to be complete). You do have to take into account the travel you incur, but also figure that if you would drive 20 miles for 20 computers at $5 each, would you also drive 150 miles for 150 computers and still pay $5? Maybe drop it down to $4 per computer, or better yet just tell him $600 for the towers. The switches look like they are 48 port, which could have more than scrap value. But I would tell him $4 for a switch, maybe more depending on visual inspection. For scrap, they are fairly easy to take apart and should give you a real nice board, power supply, fans and steel. The servers could probably go for $10 each, but I would reserve that price until you can get a good look at them. The "working" server I would not quote a price until you can see it in person. In the meantime, get him to tell you the specs on the server and do some research online and ask any computer buddies to help you set a price.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Get him to agree on a price for the towers and tell him you are driving a LONG way to get them. Even give him a purchase order # (make one up) so that he feels completely tied to the agreement. This gets you in the door with an agreement to purchase. You don't want to get there and they changed their mind. Once there, you can negotiate the price on everything else. If you are already there and moving equipment, they will be highly motivated to sell you the remaining items at an agreeable price just to get them out. IMO, you need to call him today or tomorrow to make the agreement, and plan on being at his doorstep on Monday morning. I've found that the more time that goes by the less likely the sale will go through.

You don't need to make the form. Just tell the guy that if they are making up a bill of sale to use PO # ??? on the bill. Based on the amount of computers he is selling it is a big business. I'm sure he will know what to do.
