im new to the forum & quite new to scrapping
im also faaar away from most of you-South Africa.
can u please tell me which of the boards pictured in the previous page generally are worth the most & which are the cheaper ones?
eWaste is not really big in SA & theres only a few companies doing it.
i got a call a few weeks ago & this lady says her company will buy motherboards from me & she quoted me what i thought was a good price-compared to taking them to the scrap yard near my home where i get paid the rate for sub-grade -which you call shred.
i was told to accumulate a good quantity before calling her.

ok folks,ive been reading on here for a few days now and last night i finally registered so i could ask some questions, i have read tons about e scrap and as ive read hours worth of the circuit board related threads,id like to say they have been very helpful,im confident i can identive all my pc boards now,from what i understand on the med and high grade boards im not to remove any thing except the heat sinks and heavy metal parts.my main question is when i have low grade boards from printers and tvs,dvd players and radios,if i find the little black chips that are square and rectangular the one kind is fastened by legs on 2 sides and the other type is fastened a bit tighter on all four sides,should theese be removed and saved.from what ive read im thinking i am supposed to cause they are worth saving.i also understand not to remove them from med and high grade boards cause it will lower the board grade.ive hauled scrap for 16 years for at least 6 months a year so its a very new idea for me to have to ask questions involving junk.ive never tried the electronics scrap befor but the regular scrap is drying up around here and i reckon its time for me to get with the times.if anyone can let me no if my assumptions are correct id greatly appreciate it.also if theres a thread ive missed that the answers are in just let me know what its called cause i dont mind reading.one more thing the printers im getting i think some are not low grade boards,cause they have gold boards and are inlayed with gold id also like to no on these boards if they have gold and are green on both sidea should i not mess with the black chips on them.id really apreciate any info

thanks for the link mechanic,ive been at it all day again today ive collected several home computers and about 2 truckloads of printers and 1 truck full of keyboards and cordless phones,the printers are giving me fits most of the boards are green on both sides and some have several of the square black chips and gold inlay from what ive read i think they are supposed to be low to mid grade boards and maybe a few high grade,ive read alot on the printer boards,what ive noticed the better looking ones came from the ones with camera docks and card slots,im seperating them all and removing nothing so i should be alright,i also have several old playstations and xboxs but i have to check with a friend i may be able to get more than scap price from them.anyhow thanks again and im off to read more on here..i love this site it is very very helpfull

Whereas you may be able to turn them in without removing the "metal parts", I wouldn't advise doing so.
Once you remove the heat sinks, you may be able to sell (the heat sinks) them for about .40 a pounds--more if they're copper.

Why would you remove a .40-.55 a lb part when your getting 2.00-3.00 a lb with it on the board.
Don't trip over that dollar getting to the dime.

Can you make more by popping off the metal cover off the rambus to sell as clean ram?

Before the low grade boards go to the yard I pull the Flyback and other transformers, alum. heatsinks, coils, chokes and other
decent sized CBM (copper bearing material). That pic of them in a barrel was just my stockpile before stripping them.
I think one of our buyers mentioned that during one of our conversations. So yes,,,Can you make more by popping off the metal cover off the rambus to sell as clean ram?

Mechanic - wanted to say this is all new to me (e-waste). Been doing metals for awhile now, mainly the (reds) copper and brass. I have owned a landscape/property management company for years (21). We do a lot of design/build, irrigation and maintenance work. Started trying to lower clients dumpster fees, by resorting dumpsters and recycling what we can. This lowers clients dump/tip fees and I get percentage of dumpster cost savings based on quarterly savings. It's something I hope can move my company into larger complexes as well (10 to 20 dumpsters sites only). We are finding a lot of e-waste and electrical type of equipment. So far wire (copper) and connector (brass) is what we sell to scrap yards. Just started doing tin, steel, stainless and aluminum. Next will be boards (PCB), so just starting the sorting process. I find all SMF post useful, but yours have been the most (like the pictures) and you have the patience new-bee's like me need. Long drawn out way , just wanted to say thank you and that your time/efforts are appreciated! Dumpsters have open my eyes and put money in the bank. The win, win is it's not going to the dump (not as much) and better for all of us (environment is a little cleaner).

I found a local yard to buy the low grade so it still has value to me after I pull the goodies off.Dumpsters have open my eyes and put money in the bank.
All ewaste has value but you'll just have to figure out if it's worth your time to break down, or find a local yard to buy it whole. I'm talking about the low value stuff.

Just been dumping low grade in 55 gal. barrels until I can evaluate time/worth/value. I have been sorting mothers, memory, CPU'S and other high end boards/components. Getting close to 60 or 70 Lbs. Not much luck with California buyer though, so will hold until shipping cost can offset return. Also still learning!
what if i have mother boards from a working computer? are they better to sell pulled out, which they are, or remove the metal stuff and make them unoperable?

If it was me, I would check Ebay to see how much demand there actually is for the MB's. That should tell you if you can sell or scrap.
