Reversing Valves, ( Heat Pumps )

Reversing valves from heat pumps are brass with a electric solenoid on the outside.

They are heavy with brass but inside is a small amount of steel. If taken in as they are you lose a good chunk of change.

To clean one up for scrap only takes a few minutes. Start with valve standing on end in vise. Cut the end off about one inch from the top. Turn over and repeat. Push the piston out the other end with a drift. Turn back over and cut bracket in two and push the rest out the other end again with your drift. Next put in vise end to end and chisel off the metal bracket that is brazed on that holds the coil.

The smallest one I have comes in at one pound when cleaned. I just did about 20 of them and have about that many more to do yet.

When prices rebound I will be ready to jump. Getting all my ducks in a row!
